Connecticut is making headlines again for the wrong reasons.
This time an official from Mansfield, Connecticut, was caught during a public meeting laughing and smiling about radicals attacking ICE agents and destroying their vehicles.
The footage comes from the November 6, 2025, Mansfield Human Rights Commission (MHRC) meeting during which members had a discussion about sending a letter to the town to ask about its plans if ICE shows up and whether it would be "proactive" when it comes to ICE presence in the community.
MHRC member Ray Fricano thought the letter sounded "naïve" and complained that it would just get "filed away" with the last letter.
But MHRC member Davita Silfen Glasberg begged to differ.
"There are communities where police forces are standing up or schools are standing up and saying you can't come in here and do this. You can't come into the school and snatch kids or snatch their parents dropping kids off," said Silfen Glasberg. "There are communities that are standing up."
"Are we thinking of doing anything? Are we thinking about next year's election day? What are we thinking about doing to make sure that people are not intimidated as they try to go to the polls? What are we doing to make sure that ICE doesn't walk into the voting polling places to harass people?" Silfen Glasberg continued.
Another member, Barbara Vaughan, asked about what MHRC's role was supposed to be... should it be worried about making "fairly inconsequential" decisions that "don't affect people in a big way" like ensuring holidays are recognized, or should it be focused on "protecting people" in the community from ICE?
Vaughan mentioned that her daughter's school in Los Angeles follows an "active shooter drill" protocol if ICE shows up, as if that's a good thing.
This is when Grace Pereira Lopes, who was featured in the Off the Press footage, chimes in.
"And I also I thought that part of the problem with it was that they don't, they're not able to produce warrants for arrest, which is against the US Constitution. And I know that that we're living in a Gestapo state right now, but I mean I've seen a lot of examples of resistance of people literally destroying the vehicles and like pushing the agents to the ground and at that point they leave," she said, smiling and laughing. "Because they they don't want to get killed."
"I mean, you know, so I, I guess I'm sort of confused because I thought they don't have the authority. They don't... they can't ever usually... they cannot produce a warrant for arrest and I thought that in the United States of America in order to be arrested you need a warrant," Pereira Lopes continued.
MHRC member Ray Fricano said that law enforcement doesn't need to have a warrant to arrest people, and provided a number of examples of how and when that happens -- all the while Pereira Lopes is smiling and shaking her head "NO".
"There's no Constitutional requirement for..." Fricano said before getting rudely interrupted by Vaughan.
He continued to explain that you don't need a bench warrant to make an arrest, which made Pereira Lopes laugh so hard she tossed her head backwards.
Another member asked the Chair to take more control over the meeting.
Chair Jeannine Kanadia took the floor and reminded folks of everything the sanctuary state of Connecticut already does with respect to the Trust Act, and talked about flyers they could share that sounded like the ACLU "know your rights" flyers.

It's worth adding that, the woman laughing at the idea of ICE officers getting assaulted, Pereira Lopes, has interned for several summers aiding Afghan, Syrian, and Ukrainian refugee resettlement through Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS) and The Connecticut Immigrant and Refugee Coalition (CIRC).
IRIS, which had assisted illegals through its "SUN" program, has struggled after losing funding under the Trump administration, and had to scale back operations.
IRIS is a member of CIRC, which has been a driving force behind getting driver licenses and in-state college tuition for illegals, and gaining access to HUSKY for regardless of immigration status.
