Earlier today, Presidential candidate Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination for President and decided to support President Trump in advance of the New Hampshire Primary.  His decision demonstrates a push towards unity in the Republican party for a better chance of success this November.

While DeSantis and Trump have waxed and waned in the public eye and on media between friends and foes, their dedication to strong advocacy for their platforms against each other has sharpened each other’s skills by exposing weaknesses.  DeSantis identified disagreements with Trump on coronavirus, but also stated that Trump represents the will of the people for another chance at the presidency, while stating that Nikki Haley’s agenda is focused on serving corporate needs at the expense of our citizens.

By endorsing Donald Trump and what his campaign team has determined is the will of the people, DeSantis has demonstrated what it means to be in a representative democracy and follow the will of the people without resorting to undemocratic measures.  America comes first and corporatism goes against that will of the people.

As a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress, I believe that unity is critical for the success of the party in Connecticut this November.  As you may recall, I won 40% of the Republican vote at the primary.  I was an unknown just eight weeks prior, and the will of the people was shown in the momentum of those that showed up to vote for a newcomer with new ideas with a focus on parental rights, medical freedom, border security, and energy independence.

My team saw real support from unaffiliated and independents and moderate democrats that would have supported me in the general election. I believe, and my team believes, that we can make an impact this November and represent the will of the people.   

New Hampshire will generate real momentum for unifying the party, and these tailwinds will help support common sense conservatives like me, and our focus on serving our citizens and not our corporations.

DeSantis’ professionalism and humility is an honorable character trait that inspires a citizen candidate like me to fight for those principles of freedom and liberty.
