U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi has granted Hallie Biden immunity to testify against Hunter Biden in his tax trial which is scheduled to begin September 5 in California.
Biden is charged with failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019, and for filing false tax returns. Biden has been accused of spending lavishly on drugs, prostitutes, girlfriends, cars and high-priced items.
“It is ordered…Hallie give testimony or provide other information which she resumes to give or to provide on the basis of her privilege against self-incrimination as to all matters about which he may be interrogated in the course of these proceedings.”
“It is further ordered that no testimony or other information compelled under this order, or any information directly or indirectly derived from such testimony or information, shall be used against Hallie Biden in any criminal case, except that she shall not be exempted by this order from prosecution for perjury, giving a false statement, or otherwise failing to comply with this order, “the judge added.
Hallie Biden, the widow of Beau Biden and former paramour of Hunter Biden, told the prosecutors that she would not be willing to testify against Hunter Biden at his criminal trial to protect herself asserting “her privilege against self-incrimination.”
When Hallie Biden testified in Hunter Biden’s gun trial in Delaware in June, she received the same immunity protection.
Hunter Biden is charged in California with three felonies and six misdemeanors and could face several decades in prison if convicted.
He was found guilty on all counts in the Delaware trial and is due to be sentenced about a week after the November general election.
President Joe Biden has stated that he would not pardon his son.
The congressional investigations into the Biden family finances continues on Capitol Hill.
