If there’s one thing Connecticut Democrats do better than wasting taxpayer money, it’s gaslighting their constituents.

This week’s performance comes courtesy of Senator Matt Lesser (D-Middletown) and Representative Jillian Gilchrest (D- West Hartford) — the Human Services Committee’s drama queens — who released a statement condemning the horror of Republicans trying to rein in federal spending. Or as they put it, “a draconian wealth transfer” and “Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill.”

In a May 22 email in response to the U.S House of Representatives passing the “Beautiful Bill” the duo asserts that, "this policy will result in 15 million more uninsured Connecticut residents, increase the cost for those who purchase private insurance on Access Health and devastate our local grocers and hospitals who are major employers in our state."

Really? According to the U.S. Census Connecticut has only 3.6 million people in the entire state.

But maybe Lesser accidentally counted every illegal immigrant between New Haven and San Diego to come up with that figure.

You’d think someone ran over their therapy dog, the way they are shrieking about Republicans daring to trim a few billion from the federal budget. Apparently, proposing modest cuts to bloated entitlement programs is now considered an act of domestic terrorism.

“This bill results in hundreds of millions of dollars in unfunded mandates on Connecticut taxpayers,” they cry, clutching their pearls so hard you’d think someone proposed banning boys from competing in girls sports.

Their newfound concern for Connecticut taxpayers is about as convincing as climate activists boarding private jets to lecture you about carbon footprints.

These two don’t care about mandates. They care about headlines — and bashing Trump is easier than explaining why Connecticut has the fourth worst tax climate in the country.

They also claim that, "Donald Trump has sold out hard working Americans to pad the bank accounts of his golf buddies, and Congressional Republicans ought to be ashamed of themselves for allowing it to happen.”

This is rich coming from two that have sold the state out years ago to their friends in the Working Families Party.

If anything’s been “sold out,” it’s the taxpayers—forced to bankroll every progressive fantasy these two rubber-stamp in Hartford while pretending to be outraged about federal belt-tightening. For all their performative rage over Washington, the real damage is happening right here at home, where the same people warning about “unfunded mandates” are the ones writing them.

Gaslighting is what they do best. They've learned from the best. Very sad that so many residents have gobbled it up and spit it back out to anyone they disagree with.
