The EMS Commission, by Easton town ordinance, is responsible for our EMS building and services.
Power and Duties:
The Commission shall have the power, duty and responsibility to train, instruct, and provide a location for sufficient personnel in order to properly maintain an emergency medical services delivery system for the Town of Easton and further have the authority to design and develop an emergency medical services system.
The Commission shall be charged with the exclusive control, management, and administration of all public emergency medical services within the Town of Easton and shall have all other powers and duties conferred or imposed by Chapter 368D of the General Statutes and shall conform to the ordinances of the Town of Easton.
The current EMS Commissioners include: Robert Adriani, Thomas Bladek, MD, James Spak, MD, Vincent Mase, and Gloria Bindleglass.
They are responsible for the building condition, and are also responsible for the 56 hours a week of unmanned shifts and 74 hours of shifts covered by out of Town EMT’s that delayed service and created a huge liability for the town over the past two years!
For the last year, people have raised awareness of this problem that fell on deaf ears, and in the last several month or so have been viciously attacked for this.
When the seriousness of the problem became public, they could no longer ignore the lack of coverage and delay in service, but continued to try to ignore it.
The EMS Commissions remedy is a $4 million dollar renovation so college kids can dorm in exchange for service.
The college program is a revolving door of untrained Sacred Heart University students we will have to train, as they have no experience and no retention rate.
This program has failed TWICE miserably due to lack of oversight and arrests that cost the Town of Easton and the Feds time, money and resources, thereby resulting in the shut down of this program in Easton!
Is this what Easton wants at the other end of our 911 calls?
What currently exists is not an acceptable, sustainable EMS long range plan for Easton.
The building is in desperate need of being upgraded, but the townspeople shouldn't be forced into this until the proper remediation of service and building costs are settled.
Vote NO until the EMS Commission can give us a 24/7, immediate, experienced, sustainable EMS plan that meets the needs of the community!!
