There were a number of surprises while diving into Hitler's Aristocrats: The Secret Power Players in Britain and America Who Supported the Nazis, 1923–1941 (2023). In the previous six-article series, I focused on a number of people in the book in relation to historical Connecticut arts figures, Burton and Emily Hall Tremaine and Nazi agent / architect Philip Johnson.
I did see a Lamont in the shortlist along with other names, but at first it did not register as the name doesn't sound so uncommon. I mean, if there were a relative of the Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont involved in Nazi-era scandal, we'd all already know about that, right?
Apparently not, with today's CT regime media either completely clueless or steering us clear from this. Well, here at the Connecticut Centinal, we don't run away submissively from elite Dem intrigue. In fact, we run towards it. So here we go.
At the start of the Lamont-inclusive Hitler's Aristocrats, we see "DRAMATIS PERSONAE (main characters only, in alphabetical order)". Scrolling down, we see the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, associated with the policy to exterminate the mentally ill and physically disabled, and a focus in articles 1 and 2, and the Connecticut connections, last month. Then we see Joseph Goebbels, who killed his family and himself at the end of World War II. Next is Hermann Göring, who was found guilty of war crimes at his Nuremberg Trial, sentenced to hanging, but committed suicide in his cell just prior to that.
Further down, we see: "Lamont, Thomas W., partner and investment banker with the House of Morgan. Lamont had been a major financial adviser regarding reparations in the Treaty of Versailles." (See the list of key players.)
What's this about?
Twenty-six mentions of Thomas W. Lamont are in Hitler's Aristocrats: The Secret Power Players in Britain and America Who Supported the Nazis, 1923–1941 (2023). Below are four:
Mention 1
"Captains of American industry and finance in the 1930s like the inventor of the assembly line, Henry Ford [See article 3 for a Ford Motor Co. / Tremaine / Meriden connection]; Thomas J. Watson of IBM; Alfred P. Sloan, chief executive officer of General Motors; James Mooney, of General Motors Overseas; and Prescott Bush (father and grandfather of the Bush presidents [and former Senator of CT]), of Brown Brothers Harriman & Company, were all, in one form or another, paid-up members of the American “aristocrats” who supported Adolf Hitler. Unwittingly, other internationalists like Thomas Lamont of J.P. Morgan facilitated Hitler’s rise..."
Mention 2
"Eventually, Morgan weighed in as the lead banker for the $110 million U.S. portion of the German loan, making Germany the largest sovereign borrower of American money for the entire decade. The public offering was backed by mighty American companies like Ford, General Motors, E.I. du Pont, General Electric [see part 4 of article series], Standard Oil of New Jersey [see part 6 of article series with connection to Museum of Modern Art, New York], and Dow Chemical... The financial wizards— Hjalmar Schacht [acquitted at the main Nuremberg Trial, controversially; New Canaan Nazi agent / architect Philip Johnson translated a book in his honor in 1939], Jack Morgan, Tom Lamont, Montagu Norman, and the British chancellor of the exchequer, Philip Snowden— feared that, despite their best efforts, their plan for Germany was failing."
Mention 3
"Lamont and the Astors were like-minded. The British Empire could (and should) coexist with the Nazis."
Oh really?
Mention 4
"NONE OF THE American bankers who facilitated Mussolini’s rise to power, like Thomas W. Lamont, were held to account. Nor was Prescott Bush, who invested money on behalf of the Third Reich until the funds were sequestered in 1942."

In 2022, the CT Mirror profiled Ned Lamont mentioning his great-grandfather's role in the Treaty at Versailles. But the media outlet said nothing at all regarding the Nazi-era questions put forth in Hitler's Aristocrats. Was this a lack of research or a looking away?
And what was up with Ned's grandfather's brother, Corliss Lamont, also bizarrely mentioned in the CT Mirror puff piece? Why weren't we told about his association with the Dodd-Sterns of Ridgefield / Lewisboro, NY, accused of spying for the Soviets in the 1950s? We see that the CT Mirror missed that as well.
Apart from the CT Smoke and Mirrors, is this another "CT Dem and CT regime media" cover-up? Or is it another case of "rules for thee, but not for me", as Lamont prances about with his sterling elite lineage, now rescinded, from his posh perch in Greenwich?
Maybe it's time for Lamont to plant more trees, even a forest, dressed up in philanthropy and reputation-washing promotion. The minions in CT regime media are always eager to help.
These are developing stories.
