The Vergnano Institute for Inclusion (VII) is offering a full day of STEM-related presentations and demonstrations curated by LGBTQIA+ researchers from the University of Connecticut.
The fourth annual "Queer Science" event will take place on Sunday, June 8th, 2025, at UConn's Storrs campus. LGBTQIA+ youth from Grades 9-12 as well as Gender Sexuality Alliance club leaders who plan on bringing a large group of students are invited.
The event registration form is sensitive to whether students want their parents to know they've signed up for "Queer Science" as well as what their "preferred pronouns" and "chosen" name are.
The goal of the event is to give queer and trans youth role models in various science, technology, engineering, & mathematics (STEM) fields in order to increase the number of "underrepresented" students in these fields.
Alleged "systemic homophobia and transphobia" and the "cisheteropatriarchal society" are to blame for queer/trans/GNC youth not having "the resources they need to attend STEM programs."
Some folks might call this a "DEI" program, but not UConn which recently claimed that it is not in violation of the Trump Admin's Executive Order on DEI programs.
"Queer Science" is offered in conjunction with UConn's Rainbow Center, which uses "an intersectional lens" to center its work on "advocating for, and increasing education, access, retention, identity development, and community-building for queer- and trans-spectrum communities"
The Rainbow Center offers a wide range of resources for students, including "anti-racist resources for education and action," an LGBTQIA+ dictionary, a gender-affirming closet, an annual drag show, a gender and pronoun guide, a gender-inclusive restroom map, and a guide on creating gender-inclusive classrooms.
In addition to the Rainbow Center, a non-profit organization called "Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics" ("oSTEM") also sponsors "Queer Science."
oSTEM is a non-profit professional association with campus chapters across the country focused on LGBTQ+ people in the STEM community. The group's goal is to become the "most valued and trusted professional resource for LGBTQA students in the STEM fields."
The most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of! We have arrived at the movie, “Idiocracy”, for real. Mental illness is now attempting to control science. Next, is gatorade for farming! Electrolytes🙄🤯
China is cashing in on American Idiots!
