Will Andrew Cuomo get the justice many New Yorkers feel he deserves? In any case, he is one step closer to finding out. The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic found that Cuomo knowingly and willfully made three materially false statements.
In other words, evidence backs the committee's claim that he lied three times. Their letter, submitted to Atty. General Merrick Garland, appears below.
The question is whether Garland, a deeply partisan figure, will act against Cuomo, who is attempting a political comeback. Cuomo's eyes are on Gracie Mansion in New York City: he feels he can defeat Mayor Eric Adams in the primary a year from now.
First, he will have to hope Garland chooses to overlook the clear and egregious examples below:
Other governors followed Cuomo's lead and sent Covid positive patients to nursing homes with similar disastrous effects.
Surely a potential domino effect is playing on the minds of Michigan's Gretchen Whitmer, California's Gavin Newsom, New Jersey's Phil Murphy, Pennsylvania's former Gov. Tom Wolf
And let's not forget perhaps the most suspect of the lot, given that he had seen the ravages of the disastrous policy play out already: Connecticut's Ned Lamont. If Cuomo falls, logically, so must they.
That same cascading outcome likely figures into Garland's math as well. It's hard to imagine he would risk the governorships of six key figures in the Democrat Party. On the other hand, he cannot ignore tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths, or the lies subsequently told by Cuomo and his gubernatorial cohort.
This is an ongoing and developing story.
