At the December 5, 2024, Board of Selectmen meeting, there was a lengthy discussion on why Fire was kicked off the EMS app that alerts Fire about EMS calls and why, despite repeated pleas from Fire and others, Fire had not been put back on the app.
Easton First Selectmen Bindleglass told the public that CMED, the entity the Town has a contract with for the app, would be too expensive and logistically not possible to put Fire on the EMS dispatch app again. However, according to the CMED representative invited to the Dec 5th Board of Selectmen meeting, not only was it possible, it would cost the Town nothing more than what we already pay CMED for access, and access could be given to Fire that same day, or the next at the latest. According to the CMED representative, the only thing that would be needed is permission from Easton EMS officials who control access to the app to approve Fire being restored on the app.
So the question is why a week later, has Fire’s access not been restored? Why? Where is the approval from the EMS Commission? Dr. Bindleglass's wife is on the EMS Commission. One would think the power couple could make that happen immediately.
How is the First Selectman’s information on this issue so inaccurate? As more and more time passes, it appears that the exclusion of Fire and the explanation for that is intentional. EMS and the First Selectmen need to stop playing politics with the safety of Easton’s residents. Work with other emergency services, not against them. Stop the petty feud. It’s dangerous and potentially a liability.
It is amazing to me that the town just spent a few million dollars on new radios to improve communications between all Emergency responders, but EMS won’t give approval for Fire to be on their app. The app would give Fire vital information on our 911 calls
Stop playing games with decisions that affect our health.
