Students in Avon High School in Connecticut apparently have an activist teacher in their midst.
High school social studies teacher Kyle Kramek is under fire after a required assignment he doled out in US History revealed his own blatant political bias and misinformed ideas about Donald Trump.
The assignment, What Would Truman Do?, starts off by telling students that in the period after WWII, for the first time in history, the US took on a leadership role in world affairs and became the world’s leading democratic nation.
"Every president since Truman, including Eisenhower and Kennedy, kept the United States in its role as a world leader…with one exception," says Mr. Kramek's required assignment. "Donald Trump has made American isolationism a cornerstone of his agenda as president; this is what “America First” is all about."
That's not at all what "America First" means to Trump or his supporters, but Kramek injects his personal take as fact instead. This is what indoctrination looks like.
"Since his inauguration on January 20, Trump has withdrawn the United States from the Paris Climate Accords and the World Health Organization (WHO); cut off billions of dollars in life-saving aid to foreign countries; threatened our closest allies with economic penalties; and declared his intention to take control of Canada, Greenland, Gaza, and the Panama Canal (even, possibly, by using force)," Mr. Kramek continues. "Trump also has a well known pattern of praising authoritarian leaders, such as Xi Jinping, the President of China; Kim Jon Un, the Supreme Leader of North Korea; and Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia."
Mr. Kramek's words appear to have been scripted by left wing talking heads from the Trump-hating media, or perhaps the teacher's union.
"As I type this, America’s eighty-year-old alliance with Western Europe is falling apart. Vice President JD Vance gave a speech in Europe supporting a German political party that is sympathetic towards the Nazis. And President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine is afraid that Trump and Putin will negotiate an end to the three-year war in his country without him," laments Kramek.
If students are going to do more research on Trump, they are directed to use the fake news NYTimes as a source.
Grades will be based on the "accuracy of your ideas" as judged by a teacher with TDS.
Unfortunately, conservative students understand what this means by now, and either stick to their principles, getting a lousy grade on assignments like this, or turn in an absolutely uninspired effort, telling the activist teacher exactly what they want to hear so your college goals aren't crushed by a bad grade.
Kramek hasn't exactly been silent about his feelings on Trump's historic win.
On November 5th, the most polite thing he could say about the election was to let folks know he is decent and morally superior -- not a racist, homophobe, sexist, etc., like he implies Trump and his supporters are.
Of course, we are all entitled to the Freedom of Speech.
But it appears Mr. Kramek might just be teaching students that his liberal views and liberal news sources are superior to conservative ones, and that's not what school is supposed to be about. School is supposed to be about learning. Teachers are supposed to teach students how to think, not what to think. And they certainly are not supposed to teach students how to think like a liberal.
It's important to mention the U.S. Department of Education is now committed to ensuring all students have access to meaningful learning that is "free of divisive ideologies and indoctrination."
Students, parents, teachers, and the broader community can submit reports when they experience potentially illegal and discriminatory practices at institutions of learning. The Department of Ed reviews these community submissions to identify potential areas for investigation.
Parents can also make a report to the Avon Board of Education, but recognize that not all Avon BOE members may take your complaint seriously.
Like Board Member Suzanne Szekeres, for instance, who thinks Trump is a "monster" and that anyone who voted for Trump is "ruining the lives of millions of students, teachers and special educators."
"F*ck every one of you who voted for this hate," said Szekeres, a Speech Language Pathologist who previously had contracts working at West Hartford and Simsbury Public Schools.
Wonder why Szekeres' post seems to have been deleted?
