Following the 2026 midterm non-presidential election wipe-outs in Connecticut, some think this is not new news.

In Connecticut, the Democrat Party wipe-out is old news. The Democrat Party ascendency began eighteen years ago during former President Barack Obama’s first term in office and has continued on its merry way ever since. No one in Connecticut should expect Democrats to abandon their, so far, successful uninterrupted social campaign. Cultural progressives have held the governor’s office since 2011; registered Democrat voters in Connecticut outnumber registered Republicans by a two to one margin; all the state’s constitutional offices belong to Democrats; Democrats in the state’s General Assembly enjoy a nearly veto proof majority; and in Connecticut’s larger cities Democrats have ruled the roost for fifty years and more, an eternity in politics. There is no pressing need for Democrats to change a thing.

Post-election reports in all media outlets indicate an historic rout. In Connecticut’s state senate, only three (3) Republicans survived the bloodletting. That means that the minority Republican Party cannot execute its primary caucus functions in the legislature; full committee assignment cannot be assigned to only three Republicans because there are too few Republican bodies in the General Assembly. It should be pointed out however that Democrat heads of legislative committees have routinely denied Republicans power positions at the legislative table. Republicans may voice their concerns, to be sure, but talk is cheap, political action dear.

As the recent numbers were rolling in, one media outlet sent a reporter to various polling places to interview people who had cast their votes. The reporter, one hopes, had no working connection with the Feds sent by Trump to oversee Connecticut’s election processes.

This is what one woman, no stranger to voting, said in the resulting story: “What’s on my mind is the high price on everything; the price of gas, groceries, the cost of living and rent. I was just telling my [13 year old] daughter the importance of voting and voicing your concerns. I always tell her that we are the ones that are going to make the change. We have to get out here and voice our concerns. If you want to make changes, this is the way to do it.”

The Democrat Party hegemon in Connecticut cannot be an agent of change because the party has now become the prisoner of its own past political successes. Real change requires a repudiation of the status quo. We in the free West ought to remember that the one party state is inherently authoritarian and and-democratic. That has been the case throughout history from the Roman imperium under Augustus Caesar to Czarist Russia – the word “czar” is Russian for Caesar – to the Russian imperium under Joseph Stalin, known in his own day as “the breaker of nations.” Democrats who insist that capitalism should give way to socialism have learned nothing from history. And they have forgotten fairly recent events and struggles that have occurred within their own living memories.

The woman is teaching her daughter a necessary lesson, and we all should welcome the practical anarchist in her soul. Change is generally good because it is a door leading to a rejection of stale and unworkable political projects. If Connecticut’s status quo – hegemonic rule by Democrats -- is not to your liking, it lies within your power to change it by voting the bums out and introducing a new cast of characters, agents of real change who embrace successful opposing ideas. Ideas have consequences, and we in Connecticut have been living with the consequences of Democrat Party polity for more than thirty years – growing less independent of a left leaning, emasculating, mothering government all the while. One hopes the mother’s daughter will take the lesson to heart.

Let us suppose – just to suppose – that this valiant mother, dissatisfied with an inferior public education, should decide to teach her child at home. Status politicians in Connecticut, by means of new regulations overseeing home schooling, have now made it less possible for this valiant mother to “make changes” in her child’s education without first applying to an overmastering, hegemonic Democrat majority assembled to affirm or deny the mother’s choice.

To what extent are the prices of goods and services in Connecticut “too expensive” because they are hiked by very expensive state-ordered regulations and prohibitions? In what amusingly used to be called the “free market” the price of goods and services have become more expensive because the state’s General Assembly and its publicity seeking Attorney General are working tirelessly hand in hand to make goods and services prohibitively expensive. But, never fear, they will arrive sometime before the next election in Connecticut proposing once again to make life in Connecticut more affordable through legislative fiat.

We now know that Democrat legislators in Connecticut regard tariffs as inflation stocking stuffers. A tariff, they correctly surmise, is a drain on lower cost goods and services because a tariff is, in fact, a consumption tax. Taxes added to value make goods and services more not less expensive. All business taxes are also consumption taxes. And a tax on income is also a consumption tax, particularly when it is levied on millionaires fully able to deflect the tax by resorting to well-known tax dodges out of reach of anyone but savvy millionaires and socialist millionaire senators such as Vermont U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, who made his millions in part by writing and selling books condemning millionaires.

Former president and general Ulysses Grant, bitten by creditors, also wrote a book. Grant was saved from penury just before he died by Mark Twain who had appointed himself editor of Grant’s autobiography in two volumes, The Personal Memoirs of U. S. Grant, to save Grant from the rapacity of gilder age publishers.

Thank God for Grant who, under President Abe Lincoln’s direction, won the Civil War. And thank God for Twain, who would not abide dishonorable men: “The more I know about people, the more I love my dog.” And thank God for God, who still works in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform.
