On the evening of Monday, May 13, 2024, members of the Greenwich Representative Town Committee (RTM), the town's governing body, convened for a record breaking 90-minute session to approve a colossal $501 million dollar budget, the largest in the Town of Greenwich’s history.
If you have ever been an elected member of the RTM or attended these sessions, you are quite aware that meetings generally end very late into the evening and oftentimes into the wee hours of the night, which makes this passage in a 90-minute all the more remarkable.
This budget represents a 4% increase which will likely raise the mill rate 2.8%. With a budget like this, keeping tax increases modest could become very difficult going forward.
The budget passed, without any cuts, by a vote of 194 in favor, with three opposed and one abstention.
Two bonding resolutions were also approved.
The next RTM meeting will be on June 10 before the group takes a break for summer.
