It's not just New York City that has elected a socialist!

Four democratic socialists backed by the Connecticut DSA also reportedly won seats on local town councils yesterday, including:

• Nate Simpson, New Britain Alderman;
• Abdul Osmanu, Hamden Legislative Councilor;
• Maurine Crouch, Hamden Legislative Councilor-elect; and
• Jeff Hart, New London City Council.

CT DSA members previously won in Hamden in 2021, 2023, and 2024, but this is the first time CT DSA members outside of Hamden won seats.

It's worth remembering that CT DSA already has one member seated as a State Rep, Laurie Sweet, whose term began in January 2025. She was previously elected to the Hamden Legislative Council in 2021 and was re-elected in 2023.

"Our Time Is Now — to fight the oligarchy and win the better world that we deserve," wrote the CT DSA, which included Zohran Mamdani on the post boasting about the win.

Joining the CT DSA in celebrating Mamdani's win in New York City is none other than Ilhan Omar, who simply wrote "Alhamdulillah" which is translated to "Praise be to Allah."

And of course the NYC DSA... which complained about "billionaires like Michael Bloomberg and Bill Ackman" who had "tried to buy this election."

After Mamdani won, though, Ackman congratulated him, and wrote, "Now you have a big responsibility. If I can help NYC, just let me know what I can do."

The national Democratic Socialists of America further pointed out that Democratic Socialism just "defeated the Democratic Party status quo" and proved that "socialist ideas are popular" -- especially among college students.

"We look forward to fighting alongside Mayor Mamdani to win a rent freeze, fast and free buses, and universal childcare. We will continue to fight for a free Palestine, to get ICE out of our cities, fight for alternatives to policing that truly keep communities safe, and stand up to Donald Trump's attacks on our social services," promised the DSA.
