The U.S. Office for Civil Rights has notified the Cromwell Board of Education that the federal agency has opened a probe into the school district’s policies after it let a gender-confused boy compete in girl's track.
The move should not come as a surprise considering President Trump campaigned on protecting opportunities for women and girls to compete in safe and fair sports, and that means not having to compete against or lose out opportunities to biological males.
On January 20, 2025, Trump fulfilled that campaign promise when he signed Executive Order 14168, Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government, and then followed that up with a subsequent Presidential Action on February 5, 2025, on Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.
On May 30, 2025, Cromwell Superintendent Enza Macri acknowledged the probe of district policies in a letter to the school community.
“As a public school, we make it a priority to create a welcoming and nurturing environment where all students can participate in our educational programs,” Macri said, in the notice. “At the same time, we are fully committed to following federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination in educational programs.”
“We are keeping both of these priorities at the forefront as we review our policies with the Office for Civil Rights,” Macri added.
Cromwell’s school board will talk with its attorney at the June 3rd BOE meeting regarding how to proceed with its policy on transgender student athletes. A second read is scheduled regarding potentially repealing the "Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Youth" policy from CABE, the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education.
Most public school districts in Connecticut use policies written by CABE, including the policy on transgender and gender non-conforming youth.
Patrice McCarthy, CABE’s executive director and general counsel, suspects there will be "multiple school districts impacted eventually" by Trump's order on protecting women's sports in Connecticut.
Connecticut Attorney General William Tong has previously called Trump's order on protecting women's sports "meanspirited and unlawful" and alleged that protecting women's sports would somehow be "deeply harmful to all Connecticut students."
“The U.S. Supreme Court made it clear in Bostock that discrimination against transgender individuals is illegal under federal law," argued AG Tong. "We will not allow Title IX to be unlawfully misused to degrade women and girls and defund our schools, colleges, and universities."
Yes, Tong actually argued that it "degrades women and girls" to stop men from entering their personal spaces and competing in women's sports.
Tong said on Monday that he and his staff are determining how to respond.
“We are aware of this cruel and partisan so-called investigation, and we are considering all legal options within our authority to protect Connecticut’s students and schools,” Tong said in a written statement.
Tong added at a press conference on Monday, "there are no easy answers" for Cromwell Schools, and if he "could snap a finger and make it all go away" he would. He promised to fight as hard as he could to protect the transgender boy, and not the biological girls.
Connecticut State Senate President Martin Looney, Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff and State Senator Matt Lesser issued a wild statement in response to the Cromwell Schools investigation.
“This is the first instance we know of where the federal government is directly targeting a local Connecticut school system. This administration feels brazen enough to weaponize federal resources to target our local schools and bully and discriminate against our LGBT children while gutting critical agencies like the Department of Education. It appears cruelty is the point and instead of protecting students, they are targeting our teachers and schools and ripping funding away from basic healthcare and food assistance,” wrote the Senators.
“In Connecticut we have passed legislation that reaffirms our commitment to our students’ right to express their gender identity without fear of discrimination. Let us be perfectly clear – our values remain steadfast and consistent in support of individual rights and liberty, regardless of who occupies the White House or who the President decides to unfairly target next.”
The message from Connecticut Democrats continues to be, apparently, that they hate biological girls and have absolutely no interest in protecting their rights, their safety or opportunities that are specifically meant for them.
Instead, Connecticut Democrats continue to double down on a very unpopular policy that favors gender-confused boys at the expense of girls.
Duff, looney, lesser & Tong are all sick in the head and I’m embarrassed by their representation.
