School is barely back in session, and already the students in Guilford High School's Mastery Based Diploma Program ("MBDA") have been surveyed about their preferred pronouns.

Students are asked specifically if the teacher is allowed to use their pronouns when sending communications home, essentially offering to keep the student's pronouns a secret from parents.

According to the GHS Program of Studies, all 11th and 12th grade students must participate in the MBDA, which "delves into the complexities within each of the portrait of the graduate competencies and reflects on how it impacts their lives and how they have grown in that area over time."

Guilford Schools launched the Portrait Of A Graduate program in the 2022-2023 school year. The program is "a collective vision" that represents the "community’s aspirations" for all students along six competencies: adaptable learner, responsible collaborator, global citizen, effective communicator, critical thinker and empathetic individual.

The Portrait seems to rely on teachers employing critical race theory (aka "culturally responsive & sustaining instruction) in their lessons, which should not be a surprise considering the BOE's warm embrace of equity and social justice.

The district even uses the Portrait of a Graduate program as a shield to defend the presence of pornographic and other inappropriate books in the school library.

"We are not willing, however, and we are not structured to serve as moral monitors of whether some materials within our diverse literary collection may be deemed inappropriate in the eyes of some. Our goal as educators, teachers and librarians, which is in alignment with our Portrait of a Graduate, is to encourage broad reading among all students and to make available a wide variety of materials to all students," says the district.

Not their job to decide whether materials are morally appropriate for students? Really?

That's interesting considering the Superintendent, Dr. Paul Freeman, previously decided it was morally appropriate to teach students that the progressive systemic racism narrative is real, even though the guru who proclaimed “systemic racism” infested America’s police and American society, Florida State University criminology professor Eric Stewart, was fired for “extreme negligence” in his research.

Dr. Freeman thought it was morally appropriate to indoctrinate district leaders with Marxist equity training, and by requiring them to read books like Waking up White by Debbie Irving and White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo. Maybe he missed the news about DiAngelo's alleged plagiarism?

Dr. Freeman also decided it was morally appropriate to change the school mascot (previously the "Guilford Indians") because it reinforced "stereotypical images of Native Americans" and it allegedly taught "a negative lesson about identity, equity and respect more broadly."

Dr. Freeman even felt it was morally appropriate for the district to become "intentionally antiracist" -- thereby following the advice of notorious race-baiter Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, the man who calls for future racist discrimination to atone for past racist discrimination, thus never ending the cycle of discrimination.

Considering how Dr. Freeman uses the tenets of critical race theory (Marxism) to gauge whether something is morally appropriate, it should not at all be a surprise that parental rights are being undermined in his district by keeping secrets from parents.

After all, Karl Marx called for the "abolition of the family" and to "stop the exploitation of children by their parents" in the Communist Manifesto, didn't he?
