This afternoon, the CT Senate Democrats retweeted an account that commented a CNN article about Aaron Rodgers, and implied that Rodgers spread "deeply disturbing right-wing lies and conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook massacre".
Democrat State Senator Matt Lesser took the sentiment a bit further, and called Rodgers "an absolute dumpster fire of a human being."
The CNN article in question claimed that Rodgers "shared deranged conspiracy theories" about Sandy Hook in "private conversations" that allegedly took place between Rodgers and CNN reporter Pamela Brown.
Another "anonymous source" allegedly claimed that Rodgers said, “Sandy Hook never happened… All those children never existed. They were all actors.”
Rodgers was recorded on the news at the time Sandy Hook happened, saying, "I hope that we can learn from this and look for the signs more and not ever have something like this happen and keep this on our minds because these are things that affect all of us directly or intellectually, and this needs to be something that we learn from."
He further took to X today to reiterate that "what happened in Sandy Hook was an absolute tragedy" and assured followers, “I am not and have never been of the opinion that the events did not take place.”
The Dems quickly got called out for sharing "fake news" by a citizen journalist who reported the post to Community Notes.
Others asked, "Why do you constantly lie about everything?" in response to the Dems post.
