Austin Monteiro is the Republican candidate for Danbury's 110th district. He will be facing off against incumbent Bob Godfrey this November, a democrat who is currently in his 18th term in the House of Representatives, having been first elected in 1988.

The main platform for Monteiro's campaign is "the revival of the Danbury dream."

Monteiro grew up and went to school in Danbury, and ran a gym in town for a decade. His family has a strong presence in Danbury, too. His great grandfather started a plumbing business in the 110th district in 1940 that his father currently runs. His other grandfather was a Police Detective in Danbury for 29 years, hence the strong focus on law and order in Monteiro's campaign.

Unfortunately, Monteiro has seen too many changes for the worse in his hometown, especially thanks to Godfrey who has been in office for 36 years now.

Monteiro recalls how safe and affordable Danbury was back in the 90's, and what a terrific place it was to live and run a business. But not so much anymore.

He also touched on the importance of retaining local zoning controls, and pushing back against the dreaded Work-Live-Ride bill that aims to stuff affordable housing around transit centers.

Another key plank of Monteiro's platform is law and order. And despite what democrats are telling you, crime is up all across the state, including Danbury which has experienced shootings, drug deals and other major crimes over the summer. Monteiro even had his car stolen out of his driveway!

Another concern that many Connecticut residents have is whether there will be free and fair elections.

"My opponent was primaried, which hasn't happened in 37 years, so that right there speaks volumes," says Monteiro who recognizes that "Wanda the ballot stuffer" is probably not the only "ballot stuffer" in the state.

But Monteiro is optimistic that turnout will be huge, and too big to rig.

He also touched on the ballot measure expected in November that would essentially allow for all mail-in ballot elections, something to which Monteiro is strongly opposed. He's in favor of paper ballots and shortening the "early voting" window.

Monteiro also touched on another key part of his platform, education, noting that reading scores have dropped to 19% in his district, the lowest ever. He wants to put kids first, not unions first like his opponent. He believes in parental rights and recognizes the challenges that need to be overcome, especially since the passing of Common Core standards (aka "communist core") under Obama.

The last major focus in his platform is affordability. And after the shock Connecticut residents continue to experience with their Eversource bills, well, that's an issue to which everyone can relate.

As Monteiro correctly highlights, you can't expect politicians who are bought and paid for by Eversource and UI to push back against those increases!

Monteiro believes the people of Danbury are ready for a change after 36 years of Godfrey.
