Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz held a press conference to celebrate and honor Transgender Day of Visibility on Monday in Hartford, and to let "all people" know that they are welcome in Connecticut.
She used the event to "amplify some incredibly strong trans voices" in the community.
Like trans teen activist June Carpenter from the Out Accountability Project who celebrated "trans joy" even though he said "trans lives are rooted in struggle and hardship." He said "trans joy" for instance can be obtained when you "see yourself" represented in a book for the very first time. He feels "euphoria" when he's been "seen" and described feeling "trans happiness" much like an "act of revolution," asserting that "trans joy is unstoppable."
Next up was Dawn Ennis from West Hartford Pride who says he has been trans his whole life, and is the proud "single mom of three, out, proud, queer kids" including one who is trans. What are the odds of that?
Besides being a journalist, Ennis is a college professor at the University of Hartford teaching journalism, advertising, public relations, podcasting and media literacy. Ennis seemed to want to scare everyone that trans people are going to lose their freedom under the Trump Administration.
Ellis called on a friend to come to take the mic -- a trans activist (a biological male) and journalist named Karleigh Chardonnay Webb, who also happens to play for Connecticut Ambush Football, an all "female" tackle football league.
And of course Webb sees no problem with men playing in women's sports, and even joked on Instagram about the "women's tackle football" game where he tackled another dude.
That's what women's sports has become in CT - a joke!
State Rep MJ Shannon, a member of the LGBTQ+ caucus, promised that transgender people are going to be at the center of policy-making in the state because "visibility isn't just about being seen, it's about being respected, protected and valued in every space, whether it's our schools, our workplaces, our healthcare systems, our homes."
He seemed upset about efforts to keep biological males out of girls sports and wants to fight to protect that "right" for trans people.
Translation - he doesn't care about protecting biological girls, so instead he's fighting for "true inclusion and justice" for the TQ+ community.
Other elected officials joined the event as well, including State Rep. Moira Rader, who represented liberal white women allies to the transgender community, and New Haven Alderman Devin Avshalom-Smith, the first trans official elected in Connecticut.
Bysiewicz gave a shout-out to other LGBTQ+ allies in the State House, including State Reps. Sarah Keitt, Lucy Dathan, Kristen McCarthy-Vehey, Kate Farrar, and Laurie Sweet.
Bysiewicz also invited a trans teen from Guilford, a girl who thinks she's a boy, to share a poem with the crowd.
Transgender representatives from several organizations offered comments, too, including Ace Ricker from Q+, which is a not-for-profit focused on queer youth to make sure they have visibility; Brianna Skowera, an event organizer with Middletown Pride; Julie Walsh of the Triangle Community Center; Tony Ferraiolo of Equality CT and Healthcare Advocates International's Youth and Family Program; and Gina Rosich, the Chair of the Department of Social Work and Equitable Community Practice at the University of Saint Joseph.
"For the past 18 years, I have had the honor to work with transgender youth and their families," Ferraiolo said. "And if you want to know what joy looks like, hang out with a little trans kid that finally realizes that it's safe enough to be themselves."
Joy comes from hanging out with a little trans kid?
Ferraiolo's group, Equality CT, has been advocating for a long list of "trans friendly" legislation in Hartford this session, including:
The surprise closing guest, Rev. Aaron Miller from MCC Hartford, seems to think Jesus would be okay with trans people flipping over some tables to fight for their rights.
Meanwhile, Governor Ned Lamont tweeted about Transgender Day of Visibility and got absolutely trashed in the comments because, quite frankly, the trans agenda is a step too far for the majority of the country.
And we're guessing Lamont won't respond to that comment about Connecticut "Dildogate" either, which you can read all about here: DILDOGATE: Can Connecticut Dems Sink Any Lower? (Warning Adult Content)
Ned, will you be commenting on CT Dem Dildogate today?https://t.co/92W7IRhDqq pic.twitter.com/yS1C86HVMT

The “ceremony” at the Capitol and this article leaves a lot to desired
it seems pretty accurate.
besides, people who think it's okay for males to pretend they are females and then enter female spaces, like female restrooms, are sick and should seek appropriate help instead of wanting the rest of the world to bow into their delusion that they are a different gender or require different pronouns and special access to FEMALE spaces.
it's just wrong.
