Protestors showed up before last night's BOE meeting in Cromwell to "protect trans kids" after it was revealed that the district is under investigation over potential Title IX violations.

Cromwell Public Schools stands to lose $1 million in funding for allowing gender confused boys to take opportunities away from girls in girls sports.

But that's not how Cromwell Mayor James Demetriades sees it.

"Let's be very clear about what is happening here, the Federal Government is targeting transgender students in an attempt to divide our community," wrote Mayor Demetriades on Facebook. "This issue was litigated and dismissed in 2021 in the Second Circuit and this should be a settled issue."

Then he downplayed the issue by saying, "there are estimated to be less than 100 transgender high school athletes across the entire country," as if "only 100" is not a big deal.

He made absolutely no mention of how girls feel when transgender students with undeniable biological advantages crush them in sports meant only for girls.

The Mayor then expressed gratitude that the Cromwell Board of Education voted unanimously last night not to change anything with respect to its transgender policies.

"I appreciate and applaud the Cromwell Board of Education for voting unanimously to table any action regarding the Title IX investigation, to stand firm with their current inclusive policies, and to release the attached statement," wrote Mayor Demetriades. "We as a community will not be divided."

He assured that, "the BOE will continue to follow state law and CIAC regulations prohibiting discrimination," even though the state law and CIAC regulations conflict with Trump's Executive Order on protecting women in sports, bathrooms and locker rooms.

The Superintendent clarified that the district, "will make it a priority to create a welcoming and nurturing environment where all students can participate in our educational programs."

The BOE said it planned on following state law and that it would continue to let gender confused boys compete in girls sports and enter girls bathrooms and locker rooms.

Additionally, the BOE refused to sign the resolution agreement from the U.S. Office of Civil Rights that is due by June 5, 2025.

Instead of wanting to protect biological girls, Mayor Demetriades and the BOE called on the state "to assume a leadership role by supporting Cromwell from any loss of funding and support transgender children from this targeted action."

Mayor Demetriades later added that, "Representative Carpino hand delivered a letter to the governor's office requesting the state support the town and hold us harmless for any loss," and that Senator Lesser "has also released a firm statement of support."

Unfortunately, no statements of support were released by the district or the Mayor for girls who are negatively impacted by the presence of transgender athletes on their teams and in their locker rooms.

Hardly anyone came to defend girls sports on the Mayor's Facebook post -- most of the commenters cared more about transgender athletes having the right to trounce girls in sports than about the rights of girls, though at least one former Connecticut resident found the courage to stand up for girls.
