A memo sent by Matthew Vaeth, Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget, announcing a temporary pause on agency federal financial assistance, is sending Connecticut Attorney General William Tong and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro into a tailspin.
The memo points out that more than $3 trillion in federal assistance, such as grants and loans, had been doled out by the federal government in fiscal year 2024.
Vaeth argued that career and political appointees have an duty to align federal spending with the will of the American people.
"Financial assistance should be dedicated to advancing Administration priorities, focusing taxpayer dollars to advance a stronger and safer America, eliminating the financial burden of inflation for citizens, unleashing American energy and manufacturing, ending “ wokeness” and the weaponization of government, promoting efficiency in government, and Making America Healthy Again," asserted Vaeth. "The use of Federal resources to advance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies is a waste of taxpayer dollars that does not improve the day-to-day lives of those we serve."
Amen.
"Federal agencies must temporarily pause all activities related to obligation or disbursement of all Federal financial assistance, and other relevant agency activities that may be implicated by the executive orders, including, but not limited to, financial assistance for foreign aid, nongovernmental organizations, DEI, woke gender ideology, and the green new deal," wrote Vaeth.
The temporary pause will become effective on January 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
Connecticut Attorney General called the order "a lawless and sweeping stop to federal grant funding."
“This is a full assault on Connecticut families-- an unprecedented and blatantly lawless and unconstitutional attack on every corner and level of our government and economy. Attorneys general across the country are preparing imminent legal action to protect our states," warned Tong.
Tong promised that "Connecticut and my team are front and center in this fight and will provide updates in real time to Connecticut as this unfolds. Today is not a day for politics-- everyone irrespective of party should be standing with Connecticut against this devastating attack on our state.”
Connecticut Congresswoman Rose DeLauro, along with Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, also expressed “extreme alarm” about Vaeth's memo.
“This Administration’s actions will have far-reaching consequences for nearly all federal programs and activities, putting the financial security of our families, our national security, and the success of our country at risk,” they wrote.
Meanwhile, the majority of voters who eagerly re-elected Donald Trump couldn't be happier about the news, and look forward to the end of DEI, woke gender ideology, the green new "scam" and other wasteful government spending.

And the full response from DeLauro here:
AG Tong is opposing federal law. As a citizen of CT, I am entirely pleased with the actions of the president and Tom Hooman. American welcome immigrants who are prepared to go through the legal process of citizenship, and acculturate themselves to Western values. That is not what's been happening here and I don't understand why CT officials believe illegal aliens taking up resources needed by tax-paying citizens is a good idea.
Any action that upsets DeLauro and Tong must be in the best interests of our nation. The time has come for CT politicians to realize Socialism will not be tolerated. Once the additional burden gets passed on to the local taxpayers, maybe they will wake up and oust these fools wasting state resources to further their own selfish (and illegal) interests.
Would any of you care to entertain the idea that:
you have family, neighbors and coworkers that harbor perspectives and values that are childish and unAmerican;
the collectivist policy which you frequently lament is often, by and large acceptable to you up to a point and indicts YOU as unAmerican as well;
there has been far too much compromise, because, well, because… peace, or equality or weak intestinal fortitude.
Now, what ought be done?
