I am disturbed and disheartened by the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald J. Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, FL. It is a relief to know that he is safe, but it is yet another sad day in our country. Violence has no place in politics. 

Regardless of political beliefs or affiliations, we must all condemn any and all forms of political violence, and must vow to work together to disallow violent rhetoric and actions. 

This cowardly act reminds us again of the importance that must be placed on our rights as Americans to participate in the democratic process without fear of harm or retribution. 

I am thankful for the actions of the Secret Service and first responders, as well as the courageous citizen who acted immediately with common sense to help authorities identify and apprehend the suspect. I will be keeping President Trump and his family in my thoughts.
