You would have thought that Democrats got the message on the proposed gas-powered vehicle ban, dubbed the "ban without a plan", after Lamont realized he didn't have the votes in the Regulations Review Committee to get it passed. And after considerable feedback from constituents who cited numerous concerns about affordability (including home charging stations), infrastructure requirements, energy capacity, and undeniably poor and unreliable performance of electric vehicles in cold weather that has left many EV owners stranded.
But that's not the case.
Legislative Democrats have continued to push for a special session at the end of January anyway, just in order to adopt the widely unpopular proposed legislation that would ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles in Connecticut by 2035.
The regular 2024 legislative session starts just a week after the proposed special session date on February 7, 2024, but the Democrats appear too eager to wait for the regular session.
State Senator Rob Sampson wondered if the Governor and legislative Democrats were "tone deaf".
He said, "holding a special session at this stage of the game is a tactic that reveals their true intention, and that is to surreptitiously bypass the legislative process and thus the voice of Connecticut's residents. Majority Democrats know that this is a bad policy that is widely unpopular among most residents. Hurrying along a ban on gas-powered vehicles in an emergency session is nothing more than political posturing. I will continue to call on my colleagues in both parties to respect the will of the people that they represent."
Frustrated citizens took to X to complain once again about the proposed ban, arguing that "Connecticut is not California" and "we don't want to be California" either.
"The Democrats and RINO’s aimlessly follow the bad policies put forward by King Ned," complained another on X.
But with a supermajority in Hartford, Democrats might just get what they want anyway.
This push has to end. There are so many reasons that this is ill advised. One major reason is that the green energy talking point is a scam. Net zero will only bring us closer to net zero in every aspect from quality of life to life expectancy. Fossil fuels are what created longevity of life. Before we figured out how to incorporate this life saving entity your life span topped out at 40 to 50. Green is all about money to be made even though most people do not want the green energy product.
According to the Arbor Day Foundation , in one year a mature tree will absorb more than 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen in exchange. So next time you take a deep breath of air give credit to a tree or hug a tree in thanks for what it gives us – the very air we breathe. Clearing land for solars panels and wind turbines only make our planet worse off with more garbage. Please make an educated decision and keep politics out of peoples lives.
When fossil fuels are burned they release carbon dioxide. Trees absorb carbon dioxide then release oxygen. Harvesting the minerals, recycling the batteries and ruining nature with man made worthless energy producers are a few more reasons this push is insanity at best. Let’s plant more trees. It’s natures best answer. We are more in tune than you think. Just because you say it over and over again doesn’t make talking points true or believable. Thank you Senator Sampson. Keep these people honest.
California can float out into the pacific and most people wouldn’t miss it.
Did this idiot see all the dead Electric cars in Chicago this week? You couldn't even charge them because it was too cold! Global warming is BS, it is all about money and control!!!
Take all state legislators, strip them down butt naked, and toss 'em out in the snow overnight, and TELL them to PROVE how communism IS SUPERIOR to the west/white cultures WITHOUT any power, heat, shelter, etc.
GET ON IT, commutards!!! Or kill yourself! MAKE THE DECISION!!!
