The Connecticut Education Association ("CEA"), the teachers union that operates locally in Greenwich as GEA, sent an email on May 27th, inviting all union members to "gather on the New Haven Green for a powerful rally in support of union rights and civil liberties" on June 8th.
CEA is aiming to "fill the Green with educators who believe in the power of union solidarity" in support of the CT Civil Liberties Defense Mobilization.
Among other things the CEA wants members, including school teachers and administrators, to advocate for "returning" to the US an alleged human trafficker / wife beater / MS-13 gang member / Venezuelan citizen who had been illegally residing in the US -- "back" to the US where, immediately upon his arrival, he would just be deported over his alleged ties to the MS-13 terrorist organization.
Mind you, the CEA doesn't just want to bring Kilmar "back" to a country where he doesn't belong, but it wants to stop all deportations, apparently including deportations of criminal illegals, and bring all criminal illegals who ended up in CECOT back to the US.
The teachers union is literally advocating for making our country less safe, not unlike the democrats in Hartford who voted to strengthen the Trust Act in direct violation of federal immigration law -- but that's a different story.
It's not just the CEA calling to stop all deportations and return criminal illegals to the US.
The rally is being sponsored by a group called the CT Civil Liberties Defense Committee -- a group of 24 organizations, almost half of which are unions, that believes the Trump Administration is "kidnapping activists, doxxing people of color, and waging a rapidly escalating war on our most basic rights in order to silence its critics."
Some of the other groups backing the June 8th event include the CT Democratic Socialists of America, CT 50501, Sunrise New Haven, CT Palestine Alliance, CT Climate Crisis Mobilization, and Jewish Voices for Peace -- many of the same groups behind all of the other recent protest activities in the state and country.
We don't know about you, but every time we see the teachers unions rallying against keeping our country safe, we can't help but wonder how much of that sentiment finds its way into the classroom.
After all, these are the people teaching and influencing your children.
And they seem to be teaching and influencing your children to become collateral damage in their never-ending quest for social justice and equity.
