When Greenwich Patriots first started, a bunch of haters registered us for email updates from a host of Marxist and communist groups in Connecticut.
But rather than unsubscribing, we started paying attention.
Last week, we learned that the 4Cs SEIU 1973, a higher education union in Connecticut, submitted an Op Ed to People's World, a newspaper described as a "megaphone for the Communist Party," touting the passage of a resolution calling on the State of Connecticut to adopt an "arms embargo on Israel and divestment of Israeli genocide, apartheid, and illegal occupation of Palestine."
This week, we learned all about what the Communist Party says is next after "No Kings 2.0" aka the on-going color revolution sponsored by a "who’s who in left-wing activism," including "Tides, Soros, Rockefeller, Ford, Buffett, and Arabella," and designed to create social destabilization.
One of the guests on "Good Morning Revolution" was New Haven's very own Joelle Fishman, the Chair of the Connecticut Communist Party, the head of Communist Party USA PAC, a Commissioner on the City of New Haven Peace Commission (though she is identified as a "democrat" on the City's website), and an executive board member for the Alliance of Retired Americans in Connecticut.
Fishman claimed the number of No Kings protests had doubled since June, with protests in 40 towns across the state in October.
She talked about how "they" -- the CT Communist Party -- would be supporting labor and the teachers unions during contract negotiations.
"We're part of a statewide economic and racial justice coalition called Connecticut For All," Fishman said. She explained how the coalition orchestrated a postcard campaign at No Kings in Hartford. The postcard message to Governor Ned Lamont was, "Take down the fiscal guard rails. Use all the surplus money to make up the difference of what the Trump Administration is withholding from our state so that nobody goes hungry and hurting."
Toward that end, just yesterday, Lamont announced emergency funding for CT Foodshare.
Fishman, who participated in the "No Kings" wrap-up call led by Indivisible, said they need to do more "actual organizing" instead of just protests in order to beat the "fascist" in office.
And elect more communists -- she even boasted about communists being on the ballot.
She said that "building at the community level" and "putting unions up front" is part of the communists' strategic approach since "the labor movement has a very special role to play in defeating the fascism" as she cited the use of strikes, contract negotiations, boycotts and resolutions like the 4Cs' call for Lamont to divest from Israel, to achieve their goals.
"This is such a lawless, criminal organization... just concerned about power and domination for the billionaires, the multinational corporations," lamented Fishman who further claimed that the Trump administration is working to destroy the right to vote, particularly for black people, through "lawless" redistricting efforts.
It’s hard to see much difference in messaging between what Joelle was saying, and what the democrat party in general has been saying.
"We do have champions in Congress. It's just a small number. We don't have enough," said Fishman. "And many of those are women of color."
Even though the odds are stacked against them, Fishman still has hope — after all, "who would have thought that a Muslim socialist born in Kenya, South Asian ancestry would be the leading candidate for mayor in a city like New York?"
By the way, Fishman's apparent admission that the Connecticut Communist Party is part of the Connecticut For All coalition was particularly interesting since the commies aren't officially listed on the coalition's website -- Connecticut's equivalent of the "who’s who in left-wing activism" list -- though 25 labor unions are on the list, along with 35 progressive NGOs and a dozen 'faith' organizations.
Like the Communist Party, Connecticut For All celebrated when Mamdani secured the democrat party nomination for Mayor. It supports "Workers Over Billionaires," the May Day Strong coalition, No Kings, and the long list of protests since Trump took office. They want ICE to get out of Connecticut communities, and to end all ICE raids now.
Connecticut For All was started in 2021 "to win the policy changes that are fundamental to the progressive good life" and to "transform" the state’s tax structure to "fund a broad range of public goods."
The goal of the coalition is to bring together community groups and labor unions to organize direct actions... which sounds more or less exactly like what Fishman described as being the communists' strategic approach of "building at the community level" and "putting unions up front" in their never-ending struggle.
The coalition launched an ultra-progressive "equity agenda" for 2025.
It turns out that Connecticut For All's Organizing Director, Constanza Segovia, is receiving an Amistad Award this year from the Connecticut People’s World Committee, which is aligned with the Communist Party USA.
Coincidentally, Joelle Fishman received special recognition for "50 years of leadership on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party USA" at the Amistad Awards in 2019. She was awarded the key to the city by then-Mayor Toni Harp and received a citation of appreciation and a plaque from the New Haven Board of Alders. She's also fond of Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, who celebrated another New Haven communist, Al Marder, with a shout-out in the US Congressional record in 2012.
Fishman's history with the Communist Party is indeed long.
After all, her mom joined the Young Communist League at the tender age of 14. Plus, Joelle was married to the late Art Perlo, the former chair of the economics commission for the Communist Party USA, and the son of Victor Perlo.
Victor had been a member of the Ware Group, which worked closely with the American Communist Party. The group was allegedly designed in 1934 to "influence policy at several levels" of government as group members' careers progressed in Washington, DC. Every member of the Ware Group was also reportedly a member of the Communist Party USA.
In 1948, Victor was accused by Elizabeth Bentley of being a Soviet Spy, and was called to testify in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee. He pleaded the Fifth and refused to answer most of the committee's questions. He lost his government job, but was never charged with spying. He went on to develop a business as an economic consultant and university lecturer. And he served as the chief economist for the Communist Party USA.
