Jewish residents in Hamden are sickened and angry after seeing a man waving a bloody Israeli flag at the weekly anti-Trump protest in front of Town Hall over the weekend.
It wasn't just any man waving the flag, however, it was the ex-husband of Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett, Dan Garrett.
The same Dan Garrett who complained last week that the No Kings protest had been orchestrated by "two zionists" whose protests drew "attention away from the ongoing genocide in Palestine."
One person who was outraged at the sight of the flag said, "This is the harshest kind of antisemitism that causes hate and violence, not only against the state of Israel, but to all Jewish residents in my town. This must stop now.”
“I reported it last night and to the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven and they will investigate and hopefully take action," said the person who also reported the incident to the Anti-Defamation League. "I encourage all residents not to stay silent and to demand that this hatred stop immediately, and if necessary, file police reports on this behavior by Mr. Garrett, as well anything else that attacks the Jewish residents.”
The Centinal contacted the Mayor Garrett's office to inquire about the incident, but were told that she left office "probably on Friday" to go out of town for a while, and she would not be returning until later this week.
It's worth adding that Amazon came under fire just last month for selling "blood spattered flag of Israel" items online, including mousepads and even a shower curtain.
The Times of Israel reported on September 10th that the "blood-spattered Israeli flag drew harsh condemnation" from Jerusalem as well as Israeli consumers.
Amazon reacted quickly to the outcry, and removed the items from its store the same day.
