A 58-year-old motorcyclist was surrounded, robbed, assaulted, and repeatedly stabbed in the back with a screwdriver during a large “rideout” on Main Street in Plantsville on Monday afternoon, according to the Southington Police Department.

The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on July 20, 2026, near 503 Main Street. Officers responded after receiving multiple 911 calls about a large group of people on bicycles, e-bikes, and mopeds participating in what police described as a “rideout.” Callers reported that members of the group were obstructing traffic and creating disturbances along the roadway.

As police arrived, they received additional reports that a motorcyclist was being assaulted. According to the department’s press release, the 58-year-old rider became surrounded by members of the group and was forced to stop in the roadway. During the encounter, his cellphone was taken and he was attacked by multiple individuals. One assailant repeatedly stabbed him in the back with a screwdriver.

The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Responding officers located and arrested two individuals in connection with the attack:

    • Kevin Manuel Rodriguez, 20, of Waterbury
    • A 13-year-old juvenile from Cheshire

    Charges against Rodriguez include:

    • Criminal Attempt to Commit Assault in the First Degree
    • Conspiracy to Commit Assault in the First Degree
    • Assault in the Second Degree
    • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the First Degree
    • Riot in the Second Degree
    • Unlawful Assembly
    • Threatening in the Second Degree
    • Breach of Peace in the Second Degree

Rodriguez was held on a $500,000 cash/surety bond and was scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court on July 21.

    The juvenile faces charges of:

    • Robbery in the First Degree
    • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the First Degree
    • Larceny in the Fourth Degree
    • Assault in the Third Degree
    • Riot in the Second Degree
    • Unlawful Assembly
    • Two counts of Breach of Peace in the Second Degree

The 13-year-old was transported to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Center under an Order to Detain. The juvenile’s identity is not being released.

Police emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that multiple people participated in the assault. “Rideouts” (sometimes called “bikeouts”) have become a growing trend involving groups of teens or young adults disrupting traffic, often filming the events for social media, and occasionally turning violent.

Anyone with information or video of the incident is asked to contact Detective Locastro of the Southington Police Department at 860-378-1667 or [email protected].
