It looks like Danbury will be joining many other Connecticut cities in flying the transgender progress pride flag, with a flag raising set for Friday, June 7th at City Hall.
This will be followed by Danbury Pride's second annual pride festival on Sunday, June 9th, featuring food, vendors, music and drag queens Summer Orlando and Barbara Joan Streetsand.
It's being marketed as "family friendly" and "inclusive to all".
The event is the brainchild of Will Love, a self-described social justice and LGBTQ activist, and also the founder of the Danbury Area Justice Network which advocates for progressive issues like racial and social justice and, of course, a free Palestine.
This year's "free" event is being funded by Apex Community Care, a non-profit organization that advocates for and provides services to people living with HIV/AIDS, mental health and substance use disorders, their families, loved ones, and to actively promote education and prevention in the community.
The website for Apex is under construction, and simply lists the organization's funders which include the following federal and state government agencies: the CDC, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration, the Connecticut Department of Public Health, the Connecticut Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services, the Connecticut division of Homeland Security, and the cities of New Haven and Bridgeport.
This means that the Pride festival with drag queens performing in front of children is essentially being funded by taxpayer dollars.
By the way, one of the drag queens appearing in Danbury on Sunday will also be reading books to young children on June 22nd in the East Hampton Library community room.
Why do so many drag queens want to read to small children anyway?
