Does systemic racism exist? Systemic Racism is the belief that institutionalized and legalized discrimination (not racism behavior of an individual) prevents certain races from achieving equal outcomes in employment, wealth creation, homeownership, and criminal incarceration. (Per United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) This belief led to the adoption of Diversity – Equity – Inclusion policies (DEI). The data shows DEI policies have severely damaged our society. DEI policies have created systemic racism instead of eliminated it. Every time the left acts to correct a problem they often make the problem worse.

“Whatever the left touches it ruins.” – Dennis Prager

The Biden administration was supposed to address these disparities caused by systemic racism. To do this the administration went “all-in” with DEI. On his first day in office in January 2021, Biden rescinded Trump’s executive order that had denied systemic racism and restricting diversity training within the federal government. (Guy, 2021)

Like most other initiatives of the Biden presidency, his DEI policies created little improvement. According to a 2025 Gallup survey, most Americans think the U.S. fell behind on key issues including education and race relations. (Roeloffs, 2025) Why? It’s because DEI policies encourage evil, increasing the frequency of deadly sins.

    Individual Racism is a Sin

Individual racism is a demonstration of disrespect and an attack on the dignity of others based on differences in physical characteristics such as skin color or other physical traits and characteristic and can produce feelings and demonstrations of superiority. Individual racism is observable and can therefore be addressed quickly. Individual racism denies the human dignity and that obviously makes it a grave sin.

    Systemic Racism is not observable

Systemic racism is difficult to address because it’s not observable behaviors. It’s a theory. It’s an interpretation hidden in the policies, history, and cultural norms. Interpretations are open to just that, opinions. People can disagree. For example, the wealth gap is often attributed to systemic racism. There are many factors that determine individual financial success. For example, persistence, resilience, action, having a positive attitude (avoiding victimhood), working hard, finishing high school, and waiting to have children until marriage. Attributing systemic racism as the major cause of the wealth gap is unsophisticated and incomplete.

Racism, by definition, is the act of treating people differently because of different physical characteristics (skin color, etc.). Isn’t this exactly what DEI does? Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris as his running mate in-part using DEI guidelines.

    · “She is a historic pick as the first Black and South Asian American woman to appear on a major party’s national ticket.”

    · “She emerged as an outspoken voice on race – and the need for police reform – following the death of George Floyd in May and the subsequent protests it sparked around the country.” (Cillizza, 2020)

Biden’s choice of Harris is DEI in action.

    Intentions vs. Results

DEI has its roots in the 1960's anti-discrimination legislative movement when laws like the Equal Pay Act of 1963, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 addressed labor issues based on protected classes. (Alfonseca, 2023) DEI policies might have good intentions. The good intentions of policies are worthless unless good outcomes are achieved. It’s the outcomes that matter.

“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Saint Bernard of Clairvaux

The left claims DEI initiatives aim to tackle disparities. They even claim that efforts to abolish DEI are racist. (Nteta, 2024) Yet after 61 years of the Civil Rights Act and $22 trillion taxpayer contributions, the wealth gap is the same. (Wally Hauck, Big Government Is Evil with Good Intentions, 2024)

    Why is DEI Evil?

There are three reasons DEI initiatives are evil. Two of them relate to deadly sins identified in Christian tradition. The seven deadly sins are envy, gluttony, greed or avarice, lust, pride, sloth, and wrath. (Bibleinfo Staff) DEI encourages the deadly sins of sloth and envy.

    Sloth is a Deadly Sin

Sloth is excessive laziness and a shirking of responsibility. Sloth is often an outcome from thinking like a victim. Because DEI claims systemic racism prevents minorities from overcoming obstacles to success it encourages minorities to become victims of the system. Victims are discouraged from acting until the system is corrected. A victim mentality encourages sloth. Disempowered victims use excuses for inaction. (Balogh, 2020)

California embraces DEI. Were the recent Los Angeles fires caused by sloth? Leaders were warned about the danger. Could the DEI policies have caused the leaders to take their eye off their responsibilities? Could they have acted sooner to ensure water was in the hydrants? Could they have initiated controlled burns? Could they have cleared brush? Could they have avoided budget cuts for the fire department?

    Envy is a Deadly Sin

Envy is the intense desire to have something another possesses. DEI encourages envy. Envy destroys joy in life and prevents us from seeing our blessings.

“The antidote to the poison that is envy is gratitude.” Fr. Nick Baumgardner.

    Encourages Criminal Behaviors

DEI leads to criminal behavior and the twisting of the legal system (double standard of application). George Soros spent $40 million to get lenient district attorneys elected. These DAs refused to prosecute criminals and instead prosecuted Christians, pro-life advocates, and parents who protested at school board meetings. DEI justifies DAs to be lenient with criminals because they are victims of systemic racism.

A DEI narrative was satisfied with the prosecution of Derek Chauvin the police officer convicted for the death of George Floyd.

“In the documentary “The Fall of Minneapolis” one can see how pride in the belief of systemic racism and the embrace of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) philosophy by the Governor of Minnesota, the Mayor of Minneapolis, and his Police Chief led them to adopt lies about George Floyd’s death and Derek Chauvin’s behaviors.” (Wally Hauck, Pride is a Deadly Sin, 2024)

Martin Luther King Jr. Day was just days ago. This federal holiday was created to honor the life and work of Dr. King. We all recall and are inspired by Dr. King’s I have a dream speech especially this quote:

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

DEI turns MLK Jr.’s vision on its head. DEI’s priority is to forcefully correct perceived harm of racism. Allowing criminals to steal up to $900 of store merchandise without accountability contradicts MLK’s message. Prosecuting white cops for the death of a black criminal contradicts MLK’s message.

    Summary

DEI programs fail to achieve their purpose (reversing the impact of systemic racism) and instead make things worse. They make things worse because they encourage deadly sins and reverse the brilliant spiritual message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On inauguration day, President Trump signed an executive order revoking federal DEI programs. Let’s pray all business and political leaders follow his lead.
