Disingenuous Democrats

Connecticut Democrats are panicking because their gravy train may be coming to an end. They’re busy lying about where the money comes from and how it’s spent. In fact, much of the funding the Democrats are concerned about is your STATE tax dollars which Democrats voted to spend, and much of it goes straight to the pockets of the Democrats’ supporters and friends working in support of Democrat agendas of DEI and gender double-think.

The nonprofit sector in Connecticut has revenues of $33 billion a year and employs 210,000.  By comparison, the Connecticut state budget is $31 billion and there are 50,000 state employees.  Even after adding in the total tax levy of all towns in Connecticut of $13 billion, which mostly goes to pay the 101,000 Connecticut teachers, 6,400 police and 4,700 firefighters, the nonprofits spend a lot. Of course, some of the State budget is distributed directly to towns and nonprofit organizations, so there’s overlap, but there’s likely little employment overlap, which means there are at least 372,000 people who are paid with your tax dollars and most vote for Democrats to keep the money flowing. So, it’s no surprise that the Connecticut Democrats are scrambling to distract and hide the scale of all the waste and fraud.

In a recent email blast to their faithful, the Greenwich Democrats whined about how local charities will have to tighten their belts because the Evil Axis of Trump and Musk are cutting back on spending.  But the truth is that much of the $100 million spent since 2018 by the six local charities mentioned in the Democrats’ newsletter comes from state funding, and it is all hugely wasteful, with this funding paying for “services” provided by employees and contractors of those nonprofits. In many cases, the cost of these services is astounding, and much of it goes to push and support Democrat political ideology on gender and DEI.

One of the local charities the Democrat’s newsletter mentioned was Greenwich’s Kids In Crisis (KiC) which, as we reported previously, got over $7 million in federal grants earmarked for “refugees.”  That money was spent serving 57 people a year at a cost of $52,631 per person, or $1,754 per night.  Democrats seem to be proud of this organization, but voters should be concerned.  Even the Ritz Carlton in NYC may be jealous as they command only $1,100 a night.

The Democrats also quoted Mr. Rabin (salary $203k) of the United Way of Greenwich (UWG). But UWG got a mere $100k from the federal government in 2020, and typically gets less than that in state grants annually.  So realistically the United Way budget won’t be affected, and Mr. Rabin’s salary should be secure.

The Democrats also mentioned Jewish Family Services of Greenwich (JFS) run by Rachel Kornfeld (salary $165k). Prior to 2022, JFS raised less than $450,000 a year with little or no government grants.  But in 2023 they expanded into providing “refugee services” with no federal grant money at all but with $2.5 million in grants from the state, thanks to Democrats.

And, like other such charities, this now includes legal services and help from local congressmen.  The refugee services at JFS seem to be led by Javid and Waheed Siddiqi who hail from Afghanistan, and the JFS team has grown to 37 people making $2 million in salary and benefits. JFS spent an additional $750,000 providing “counseling services” for which they also charged $803,000 through a network of 41 therapists.

It’s not clear what these refugee and expanded counseling services have to do with past JFS services like a Kosher food pantry, and some past donors may find the JFS name confusing given JFS’s new spending spree.

Keep in mind that the US accepts legitimate political asylum seekers, but we only selectively let in people hoping to make more money.  As we noted in the previous article on this topic, 69% of asylum requests which make it to a hearing are rejected. But there are over 591,000 people who have requested asylum using the CBP App, and another the 434,000 were granted dubious asylum under the Biden administration’s fraud-ridden CHNV program.  At 50,000 hearings a year, there’s an at least 20-year backlog.   And that doesn’t begin to cover the 3.4 million people overstaying their US visa, the 8.7 million CBP encounters, the at least 2 million “known gotaways” and those unknown gotaways since 2020.  It’s a bonanza for immigration lawyers and nonprofits who pay them and provide “counseling.” The Democrats are perhaps upset because they hoped to line lawyers’ and others’ pockets with 20+ years of work paid for with your tax dollars.

Also mentioned by the Democrats is Pacific House (PH) run by Rafael Pagan Jr. (salary $225,000). PH received $4.2 million in grants in 2022, mostly from the state, to supplement their $1.4 million in rental income. PH spent a total of $6 million providing shelter for “60-85 men and young adults each night” or $70,000 per person per year.  PH doesn't specify the citizenship status of the people it helps spend $70,000 a year each on housing, and at $5,800 a month, perhaps each man got a three bedroom waterfront apartment.

The Greenwich Democrats also quoted Mr. Hamilton (salary $284k) of Liberation Programs (LP) whom the Democrats claimed “relies on federal programs for six percent of its funding.” The Dems must have meant SIXTY percent.

This is because according to their 2023 Form 990 tax return, LP got $5.5 million in state grants. However, LP also got $10.4 million in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements, which are federal programs, though they’re managed by the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS).  That, in addition to $1.9 million in private insurance reimbursements, significantly exceeds (10.4+5.5+1.9 = 17.8), the $13.5 million in program expenses, even after you add $1.3 million in management salaries.

Keep in mind that under Democrat rule, Connecticut Medicaid rolls exploded, and cover over 932,000 people, or about one in four residents, and that’s not counting those getting partial assistance or reduced rates. After the Obama ACA expansion, under federal law, Medicaid is only available to US Citizens and legal residents, with income up to 138% of federal poverty levels.  In Connecticut, according to the Census Bureau ACS, that 138% income level covers at most 500,000, not all of whom are legal residents.

In other words, Connecticut has, at state expense, covered over 400,000 people who wouldn’t qualify under federal law, likely including many illegal immigrants.  Plus, Connecticut subsidizes coverage for those making up to 230% of the federal poverty level. Yet, CT DSS does not know how much this costs the state.  So Democrats are (hopefully) rightly concerned about the approaching end of at least the Medicaid gravy train which they’ve been abusing.

Even staunch Democrats (and Democrats tend to consume more mental health services) should be concerned at the waste represented by per-person costs of $1,700 per night or rent of $70,000 per year.  And since 2018, these six nonprofit organizations mentioned by the Democrats spent over $100,000,000 of your tax dollars, and there are over 30 such organizations in Greenwich alone.

It's worth mentioning that, at the state level, Democrats teed up HB 7066 to protect funding to their causes, with $800k going to Planned Parenthood alone. There's also a laundry list of $62,500 grants for progressive groups that "protect immigrants" (e.g., JFS, CIRI) and "protect LGBTQ people" (e.g., Anchor Health, PFLAG) from Trump.

Gov. Lamont has suggested he would veto this spending, but Senate President Martin Looney and Senate Leader Bob Duff plan on discussing whether to attempt an override.

Perhaps the Democrats are concerned these funds will dry up since the funds go to their supporters, or perhaps because they want to keep spending to import voters whom they believe will be life-long Democrats, though most immigrants are here seeking a better life than they had under the sort of socialist pipe-dream the Democrats are selling.

Of course, we're guessing not that many Democrats read the Connecticut Centinal, in no small part because Democrats have been using smear campaigns to condition their faithful to reject anything other than their own propaganda, and in part because google suppresses conservative viewpoints

But we provide lots of embedded links so please feel free to fact check all the above for yourself.

… not that many Democrats read the Connecticut Centinal,... reject anything other than their own propaganda....

As we reject... their propaganda.

Irreconcilable differences.

Both parties deprecated war; but one of them would make war rather than let the nation survive; and the other would accept war rather than let it perish. And the war came.
