Sultan Al Jaber, the President of the United Nations climate change summit, COP28, has just stunned people around the world by claiming that there is "no science" indicating that a phase-out of fossil fuels is needed to restrict global heating to 1.5C.

Al Jaber also said a phase-out of fossil fuels would not allow sustainable development “unless you want to take the world back into caves,” reported The Guardian.

Yet just three days ago, Greenwich Democrats were complaining about "absent leadership" from First Selectman Fred Camillo on green energy and alleged Greenwich was "burdening taxpayers" with "costly" fossil fuel systems that they claimed were not sustainable.

It's not the first time that Greenwich Democrats have screamed about climate change and fossil fuels, either. Far from it!

Pushing climate change, even though the science is not at all settled, is a key part of the democrats' agenda.

In fact, one Democrat who recently won re-election to the Greenwich RTM, Andrew Winston, said that declaring a climate change emergency would actually have been "great" for Greenwich.

He and other democrats like Jonathan Perloe, backed a group of student activists last year who called for 100% renewable energy and moving away from fossil fuels rapidly. Something which would apparently take us back to living in caves.

Winston's vision for Greenwich involves things like pushing net zero, installing EV chargers all over town, and adding large installations of renewable energy. (Does he mean offshore windmills at Todd's Point?)

He thought that declaring a climate change emergency in Greenwich was not at all a radical idea, even though there is not a climate emergency... perhaps that's because he makes a living off pushing sustainability and going green.

But don't expect the democrats to change their tune on climate change anytime soon.

Especially since Manisha Juthani, Connecticut’s public health commissioner, just said that climate change is impacting the health of people in the state "here and now".
