Yesterday’s victory at the polls was one for the people. In politics, there are parties and there are people. Yesterday was a demonstration that people matter and We The People matter. I’m in this race to heal Connecticut and take back our country. I’m also in it to Put a Doctor in the House to solve this country’s healthcare crisis, along with so many other issues that affect everyone.

We expected low turnout considering the timing, but turnout was even lower than we expected. If you’re ever asking yourself, does your vote count?  I’m here to tell everyone that every vote matters and it really mattered to us yesterday.

I was the underdog. This was as they say a Rocky story for the ages. This journey began two years ago when I lost as an unknown candidate, and I have been fighting for the people ever since.

I want to thank my opponent, Bob MacGuffie, as this was a primary that tested everything. He was a worthy adversary, and we took these 12 rounds to the scorecard. We both fought fair, knowing that regardless of the outcome we would work collaboratively to take on Mr. Himes and pledged to do so. This election is about defeating a career politician and ensuring that our government lives up to its constitutional function as a government by the people and for the people.

I want to thank everyone who came out and volunteered and especially want to thank my hometown of Greenwich where we picked up 80% of the votes. The town rallied behind me from First Selectman Fred Camillo and Selectwoman Lauren Rabin, Senator Ryan Fazio, the Greenwich Republican leadership and to all of those who made the calls, worked the polls, wrote letters, sent emails and did not let the dog days of summer serve as an excuse.

A special thanks goes out to the 151st district where we kicked off this campaign and to State Rep candidate Tod Laudonia and his campaign team of Joe Montanaro and Gail Lauridsen who crushed the district and helped garner enough votes to give us a buffer. Rich and Kristy      Niemynski did some yeoman's work as well in Greenwich and throughout the district. We also had help from Tina Courpas, a State Rep candidate in the 149th who helped in Greenwich and North Stamford.

I also want to thank Oxford First Selectman George Temple and Selectmen Arnie Jensen. Our politicking at the recycling center and their endorsement led to a commanding lead in Oxford. Mayor Lauretti in Shelton and his endorsement also gave us the lead in Shelton. Tom O’Dea, and the Stamford Republicans and State Rep candidates Olga Anastos, James Malerba and Rudy Settimi helped us take Stamford and New Canaan. State Senator Harding was also instrumental as well. We had some exceptional ground fighters with Cathy Walsh and Anne Manusky that helped us also with battleground towns of Oxford, Shelton and Easton that put us over the edge.

There are so many others I want to thank and all of those who believed in us and put their neck on the line to endorse a challenger candidate. I will be reaching out to everyone that helped as everyone made the difference.  The list of endorsements I earned is extensive and every one of them helped in different ways. We had support from outside of Connecticut from the Medical Society of the State of New York and the New York Young Republican Club and national groups of Latinos United for Conservative Action.  We also had the support of Connecticut’s Law Enforcement with the Fraternal Order of Police.

I want to thank my supportive family, my wife Belle, my sons Stephen and Jonathan for being there and encouraging me to fight. My son and campaign manager, Jonathan, deserves special thanks for doing the work behind the scenes to develop and deploy a strategy that helped me win yesterday. He made some last-minute adjustments on our focus to get out the vote which paid off and he worked the polls till close picking up every vote he could. Dr. Joseph Bentivegna was instrumental in working on the campaign, especially with getting the message out.  He and Jonathan were instrumental in getting our message delivered to more than 30,000 people.

We look forward to working with Matt Corey and congratulate him on his primary victory. We also want to express gratitude to Gerry Smith and his team as we campaigned with both candidates over the past few months and have a camaraderie outside of campaigning. We had a good time with this father son duo of Gerry and Ben Smith with the father and son duo of me and my son Jonathan.

Now the work begins, and we will be taking it to the streets and the people even more now that we are in a general election. Our republican base turned out, but this is all about getting to everyone as it’s about the better message and the better solutions which we know we have.

I thank everyone for their continued support in time, energy and resources.
