Students at Hillcrest Middle School in Trumbull allegedly received an assignment on February 10th that sparked immediate controversy.
The assignment was intended to prepare students for "a civil dialogue" so they could learn how to "respectfully" share their ideas and "better understand" different perspectives.
Sounds okay.
However, the first item listed under "success criteria" created a false equivalence between "immigration enforcement in the US today and the persecution of Jews in Germany in the 1930" and is a hefty topic for middle schoolers.

The homework assignment drew immediate blowback, and was circulated by Libs of TikTok.
Fox News Contributor Paul Mauro tagged the school on X, asking for a comment.
Rather than issue a comment, the school deleted its X account.

The 8th grade social studies teacher who reportedly gave the assignment, Mrs. Brown, has been a member of the District Equity Leadership Team (DELT), and advocated in favor of "equity training."
She also serves as the advisor for the school's "BUF Movie Club" -- "Belonging, understanding and fairness" -- which discusses "common experiences in an effort to create a shared vision for a more just society."
She has been accused by a number of other parents and former students of allowing her personal politics to slip into the classroom on previous occasions.

Parents allege that Brown has previously pushed "systemic racism assignments" -- not a surprise considering her role on DELT -- and other biased narratives that are allegedly not part of the district's curriculum.
The Centinal reached out to Trumbull Superintendent Martin Semmel for a comment.
However, we should note that Semmel declined to comment on a previous article regarding a Trumbull teacher who had written on Facebook, "F*ck this stupid country" because he had "#NoAllegiance." Parents were concerned about that teacher's ability to keep personal political views out of the classroom, much like they are concerned about Mrs. Brown.
The Centinal submitted a Freedom of Information request to obtain more information regarding the allegations that Mrs. Brown is indoctrinating students through politically-biased assignments, and will report back with the findings once we receive the information.
