Stop what your doing, and take a few minutes to listen to Samuel Turner, a 15-year-old Farmington, CT, boy who has been homeschooled his entire life.
This incredibly articulate young man delivered powerful testimony in support of homeschooling, and against the state's latest attack on homeschooling families, H.B. 5468.
Turner opposed H.B. 5468 for several reasons.
“First of all, God gave me to my parents not the state," explained Turner. "God gave me to my parents, and thus my parents have the authority to school me and raise me. For Connecticut families, homeschooling is an act of love to invest in their children. It is my parents' God-given right to raise me, and not the state's."
Another reason Turner cited opposition to H.B. 5468 is because it "opens the door for the state to force future unwanted agendas on children, encroaching upon the God-given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, not to mention freedom of religion."
Turner aptly pointed out that "homeschoolers are a threat to an extremist agenda."
"This bill is a power play," he said. "If the homeschoolers are controlled, power is secured for those who desire to rule the state and families."
This young man clearly has a bright future ahead of him.
