They Are Not Hiding It Anymore

Contempt is the theme this week. From the President of the United States, to Senate Democrats here in Connecticut, to your local librarian, the contempt of elites for Christian values—and for Christians themselves—has been much in the news lately.

We begin today at the top, with President Biden. Pro-life Christians were shocked when the President made the sign of the cross at a rally promoting abortion.

Not AI. Biden actually did this.

The Biden Administration, of course, is pro-abortion. And Biden, a professing Catholic, has grown ever more pro-abortion himself over the years. This is not exactly breaking news.

But it is one thing to oppose your own Church's defense of the most vulnerable. It is another thing altogether to appropriate one of its most sacred gestures while campaigning for the slaughter of the innocent. In doing so, Biden expressed contempt for his fellow Catholics who stayed faithful when he did not.

And not only for Catholics. Breitbart quotes President Biden thusly:

“Folks, it was no miracle. It was a political deal to get rid of Roe — a political deal he [President Trump] made with the evangelical base of the Republican party… if they [would] look past his moral and character flaws in exchange for his commitment to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who would overturn Roe,” Biden continued.

Ah yes, the Evangelicals. Contempt for Evangelicals by our political and media elites has been sky-high lately. And not only at the national level.

Consider this recent tweet by the Connecticut Senate Democrats:

We are sharing the retweet by investigative reporter George Colli because we agree with his assessment of what the CT Senate Democrats did. You can see Colli's retweet here and the original tweet by the CT Senate Democrats here.

If the CT Senate Democrats meant their slur against Evangelicals as a criticism of President Trump, it was poorly executed. And in both cases, Biden and the CT Senate Democrats, it leaves the impression that Trump is their excuse for venting a long-held prejudice against Evangelical Christians on the Left. The Washington Post's infamous description of Evangelicals as "largely poor, uneducated and easy to command" seems to live on in the White House... and among the CT Senate Democrats.

    But Wait. There's More.

Remember the fretful op-ed by Sen. Cecil Maher that we told you about last week? Sen. Maher was beside herself over a proposed law that would have stopped schools from transing kids from one sex to the other without parents knowing. She was even more distraught that legislators supporting the proposal published a letter defending the bill and themselves. Oh, the humanity!

Shortly after our previous email alert, Hearst Media's editorial page editor acknowledged getting "blowback" for publishing Sen. Maher's oped. His column also revealed that Sen. Maher is the mother of Connecticut native Katherine Maher, NPR's new ultra-woke CEO.

The column is behind a paywall but to read it is to be struck by the strange insularity of Hearst Media's opinion pages. "I won’t hold Katherine Maher accountable for comments made before she joined a news outlet," writes the editor. He does not tell his readers what those comments were.

Bear in mind, Katherine Maher's public remarks were not the run-of-the-mill "Orange Man Bad" stuff from the left.  They were often vile, replete with reverse-racism.

There it is again, that contempt. And the elites who close ranks to protect those expressing it.

    But Wait. There's Still More.

Finally, we want you to be aware of a front page story that appeared this week in the Waterbury Republican-American. Here is the headline:

    Screenshot, Republican-American.

But, boy, did they bury the lede.

The real story is not that a gay-porn-for-kids book was "pre-emptively" moved to adult fiction. It is that the librarian refused to accept 49 out of 50 complaints about the book. She said they were not submitted according to her rules.

The library board told the librarian she "overstepped." They demanded an explanation. “What causes people not to be heard?" asked one library board member. "That’s something I take seriously.”

We know the answer. Contempt. In this case, contempt for the ordinary moral sense of the public in general.

And here at FIC Action, we take it seriously too. That is why we have an action campaign going right now on this very topic. If we don't stop HB 5417, librarians like this will control what the books, including pornographic books, are to which your children will be exposed.

Watch for more information on this and other battles as we near the end of the legislative session.
