How Bad Can It Get? This Bad. (And Worse.)

The state government's attempt to remove regulations protecting the life of newborn infants who survive abortions in Connecticut made headlines today:

Did you ever expect to see a headline with the words "post-abortion infanticide" in it? This is what we have come to. Here is the front page, above-the-fold, version in this morning's print edition:

It is an outrage that the state government tried to open the door to post-birth infanticide at all, let alone that they tried to do it under the cover of regulatory darkness, with very little notice to the public or opportunity for the people to be heard. They also tried to use the same squirrelly process to remove conscience protections for medical workers who do not wish to perform abortions and to further liberalize the legality of late-term abortion in Connecticut.

FIC and the CT Catholic Conference spent much of the summer fighting for a public hearing on these proposed changes to our state regulations. Our work bore fruit yesterday. From the Courant article:

"Peter Wolfgang, the longtime executive director of the conservative Family Institute of Connecticut, said the proposed changes should be withdrawn.

“'You’re opening the door, at the very least, for post-abortion infanticide,' Wolfgang said during the hearing. 'It’s crazy that the department would consider removing the protections that we have in the law that explicitly require that you protect the newborn that happens to survive an abortion. … In the last few minutes, you’ve heard references to the Holocaust and slavery and divine retribution. This is tough stuff, man. This belongs in the legislature. This does not belong in regulatory agencies. So please do not exceed your authority. Please take it back.' ...

"Abortion opponents outnumbered supporters during the hearing, which was held in a large hearing room on Capitol Avenue. Besides the Family Institute, the speakers included members of the Foundation to Abolish Abortion, the Roman Catholic Church, Choose Life at Yale, and the Connecticut Right to Life Education Alliance."

Evil always overextends itself and there are signs that the pro-abortion movement has done so here. Courant columnist Kevin Rennie, a former legislator who supports abortion, criticized the new regulations in his most recent column. Even Gov. Lamont seemed to throw cold water on it, asking if it was "a solution in search of a problem."

No wonder the representatives from Planned Parenthood and the legislature's pro-abortion caucus seemed so rattled at yesterday's hearing. They thought they could do the most radical overhaul ever of Connecticut abortion law quietly, without anyone noticing. Instead, it's on the front page of the newspaper.

    Parental Rights Fight Continues

Finally, we want you to know that FIC is still quite busy fighting the Biden Administration's attempt to use Title IX to attack parental rights. Leslie and Peter Wolfgang spoke on this earlier this week at the Litchfield County Moms for Liberty meeting.

We mentioned above the need for financial resources and human resources. We wish to thank all those, from multiple groups, who attended this week's hearing. You did a great job! Special shout-out to Rep. Brian Lanoue, the only elected official to speak on our behalf.

And most of all, we thank almighty God, from whom all good things come. To him be the glory.

    A Word From Our Sponsor

FIC and our allies are breaking new ground in the fight for the sanctity of human life and the defense of parental rights in Connecticut. We are going places the pro-life movement has never gone before. And we are rattling Connecticut's abortion industry in ways we have never seen in all the decades that we have been in this fight.

But we cannot do it without resources. Specifically, two kinds: financial resources and human resources. The September 27th FIC Banquet is your opportunity to help us with both.

It's a fundraising event, of course. Whether you plan to attend or wish to send your regrets with a donation toward the banquet's success, we need your support.

But we also need to encourage those Bible-believing churches that have been on the sidelines in Connecticut to get in the fight with us. Not for politics, not for partisanship, but for the sake of the gospel itself. When you read about the horrors we have been fighting just this week, just yesterday, you will see why.

That is the message keynote speaker Eric Metaxas will be bringing to the FIC Banquet on September 27th with his "Letter to the American Church." Please help us make it a success with your presence, your financial support, and the presence of your churches too. You can purchase tickets, or donate to the banquet's success, by clicking the button below.

follow the money. if you look up laws they have established about dead babies at various stages and even the live births, the bonds created make money for the government.
