Allan Fung, former Mayor of Cranston, R.I., has a 6-point lead in the race for the Second Congressional District, according to a WPRI 12 News/Roger Williams University poll released Thursday.
The results of the poll give 46% points to Fung, 40% to Democrat candidate Seth Magaziner, and only 4% to Independent William Gilbert. Of the 254 likely voters surveyed for the study, 9% are still undecided.
If Fung defeats Magaziner in November, it will be the first time in 30 years that a Republican wins a congressional seat in Rhode Island.
The Republican candidate is benefiting not only from the very weak economic performance of the Biden administration, but from his strong record as Mayor of Cranston where he transformed a municipality with deep financial troubles into one of the Top 50 Cities to Live in America for three straight years.
The race is close. However, with almost 25% of Democrats backing Fung and a 6% point difference that has not changed in the past three months, there is a good possibility that the Republicans will get an extra seat in the House of Representatives.
The election of Fung to Congress would be a demonstration that the American dream is still alive. He is the son of a young couple of immigrants from Hong Kong, who came to the US looking for a better place to raise the family they were about to start.
Success based on freedom, family values, entrepreneurship, free markets, high-quality education, and hard work is what our country is all about.
