Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has unveiled new welcome signs that are intended to highlight unique reasons for travelers and residents to live, work, and play in Connecticut.
The new “Welcome to Connecticut” signs have been erected at seven entry points near the state’s border, including on I-95 and I-84 entering from New York; on I-91, I-84, and I-395 entering from Massachusetts; and on I-95 and U.S. Route 6 entering from Rhode Island.
The signs each showcase a unique aspect of Connecticut’s identity and the opportunities available in the Nutmeg State with messages like: Home of the Submarine Capital of the World, Stop for a bite in the Foodie Capital of New England, Home of the Basketball Capital of the World, and Home of the Pizza Capital of the United States.
In fact, Governor Ned Lamont declared Connecticut the Pizza Capital of the U.S. in February 2024 with a gubernatorial proclamation and then U.S. Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro read it into the Congressional Record in May 2024.
Of course the "Home of the Pizza Capital of the United States" sign is sure to draw some interesting reactions, not just from neighbors in New York who think they have the best pizza (maybe they just haven't tried Frank Pepe's yet?)... but also from the "Pizzagate" crowd who view the term "cheese pizza" as code for "child pornography".
