Greenwich residents woke up today to an unexpected sign blight today, thanks to the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee (DTC).
Democrat political signs, including those touting Kamala and Walz, were found planted in public areas like parks, traffic circles and more, all across town today.
The issue with that, says, the Greenwich Republican Town Committee (RTC) is a gentleman's agreement has been in place between Republicans and Democrats for the last 20 years that there would be no lawn signs placed on public property until two weeks before an election.
According to the RTC, "this was to address the concerns about the issues with lawn signs, as well as public feedback indicating early aggressive use of lawn signs exacerbate an already exhausting political season."
"Democrats in town, potentially on the advice of their multi-million dollar consultants in DC, unilaterally decided to end said agreement this year," charged the RTC. "We have been in contact with Chair Downey and we were informed that “this” Democrat Town Committee had not made any agreement related to lawn signs on public property."
"Our opinion remains that the safety, sanity and logic of this agreement is a larger benefit to the town, however our candidates must proceed in a competitive manner," said the RTC in a statement issued today. "It is disappointing to see our Democrat candidates placing campaign over community."
US Congressional candidate Dr. Michael Goldstein, said, "This is a clear example of not giving incumbent State Senator Ryan Fazio and the following Greenwich candidates, Michael Goldstein (US Congress CT-04), Tina Courpas (State Rep - 149th District), Paul Cappiali (State Rep - 150th District) and Tod Laudonia (State Rep - 151st District) equal access."
"When Republicans make a pledge, we keep it. Keeping our word is essential to integrity and fairness," said Goldstein. "The Democrat Town Committee should abide by these rules that are to promote the principles that they claim to subscribe to and use as slogans."
"These rules are also to keep Greenwich clean from the nuisance that many residents complain of regarding political signage and some get distracted that they may even become a safety hazard," Goldstein explained.
It's not just a matter of a moral agreement that the democrats broke.
The DTC also seems to have violated the Town of Greenwich Municipal Code with respect to Division 16 on Signs.
The code states that all lawful "temporary signs" which include political signs may not go up more than 15 days before the advertised event, which in this case would be the 2024 Presidential Election on November 5th. By our math, that means political signs should not appear on town property for another full week.
But since most democrats don't even know what a woman is, it should probably not come as a surprise that they don't know what a gentleman's agreement or an ordinance is, either.
