Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. says the claim that “vaccines have been tested and there’s been this determination made” that they are not a cause of autism is “just a lie.”
The secretary told the New York Times in an interview published today that “The phrase ‘Vaccines do not cause autism’ is not supported by science.”

According to the report, Kennedy told the Times he himself instructed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to walk back its longstanding assertion that vaccines are not a cause of autism.
The move, Times reporter John Yoon wrote, “repeats the skepticism” the secretary has expressed “about the safety of vaccines, though dozens of scientific studies have failed to find evidence of a link.”
“Mr. Kennedy’s intervention flows out of his two decades of vaccine activism, and demonstrates his intense interest in the topic even as other health issues, including the cancellation of insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, are swirling in Washington,” The Times continued its commentary.
The CDC edited its website Wednesday to reflect the following “key points”:
The statement is placed above the original header titled “Vaccines do not cause autism” with an asterisk linked to a footnote that states the header “has not been removed due to an agreement with the chair of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee that it would remain on the CDC website.”
That chair is Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), a physician, who agreed to vote to confirm Kennedy if he, in turn, agreed not to remove that header from the CDC website.
“I’m a doctor who has seen people die from vaccine-preventable diseases,” Cassidy posted to X on Thursday. “What parents need to hear right now is vaccines for measles, polio, hepatitis B and other childhood diseases are safe and effective and will not cause autism. Any statement to the contrary is wrong, irresponsible, and actively makes Americans sicker.”

But family physician Dr. Craig Wax replied to Cassidy, “With all due respect: 1. Two dead from measles is sad for sure but how many severe reactions, SIDS deaths and cases of autism potentially from MMR and toxic adjuvants like aluminum? 2. Millions of reactions from neurological to cardiovascular to deaths from C19 mRNA spike vaxes and no actions to reconsider or remove from the market?”

The McCullough Foundation released a report several weeks ago summarizing its analysis of over 300 studies on known risk factors on the causes of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Nicolas Hulscher, MPH, et al concluded that one factor – “combination and early-timed vaccination” in infants and children – is the major driver of risk for ASD.
