A board-certified plastic surgeon who trained at a major New York City hospital center for gender-dysphoric youth described seeing parents “pressured” into consenting to trans medical procedures by the center’s staff who suggested failure to allow the treatments could result in their child’s suicide.

Dr. Ira Savetsky told Fox & Friends on Thursday that he trained at NYU Langone Health in what he described as “the number one plastic surgery program,” as he witnessed up close children as young as 13 years old undergo “irreversible” gender surgeries.

Savetsky publicly apologized for failing “to speak up” about what he saw as parents struggling through the decision-making process for a child claiming a different gender identity.

“As a father to three young children and as a physician who took an oath to do no harm, I failed to speak up, and I just want to thank President Trump for having more clarity on this,” Savetsky said during the interview.

“I can only imagine what the parents were going through,” he added. “I mean, they’re told that their child is going to kill themselves if they don’t have these surgeries.”

“They’re pressured, and what are you supposed to do?” he asked. “You’ve dropped everything to do the right thing for your child, and I think that, unfortunately, there was a lot of financial motivation with these institutions.”

As early as March 2022, Dr. Stephen Levine and his colleagues published a study in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy that addressed the issue of suicide in child transgender centers:

[T]he “transition or die” narrative, whereby parents are told that their only choice is between a “live trans daughter or a dead son” (or vice-versa), is both factually inaccurate and ethically fraught. Disseminating such alarmist messages hurts the majority of trans-identified youth who are not at risk for suicide. It also hurts the minority who are at risk, and who, as a result of such misinformation, may forgo evidence-based suicide prevention interventions in the false hopes that transition will prevent suicide.

Savetsky expressed his remorse following the announcement by the hospital that it was discontinuing its Transgender Youth Health Program.

“Given the recent departure of our medical director, coupled with the current regulatory environment, we made the difficult decision to discontinue our Transgender Youth Health Program,” NYU Langone spokesman Steve Ritea told Fox News Digital in a statement. “We are committed to helping patients in our care manage this change. This does not impact our pediatric mental health care programs, which will continue.”

Just days after his inauguration, President Donald Trump issued an executive order titled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.”

In the order, the president directed all federal departments and agencies to “immediately take appropriate steps to ensure that institutions receiving Federal research or education grants end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children.”

The web page for the former NYU Langone transgender youth program now takes visitors to a page titled “Gender & Sexuality Service” – a program that still clearly aligns with the so-called “gender-affirming care” model of treatment for gender dysphoria.

“Our service provides ongoing evidence-based psychotherapy and uses a gender-affirming stance to address a variety of mental health concerns that may impact individuals exploring their gender identity,” the hospital program states.

Savetsky described the pressure he experienced while training at the elite medical facility.

“You’re at the number one plastic surgery program, you’re just grateful to be there,” he said. “There’s no room to speak up. You’re a soldier…”

“You work so hard to get there… you don’t want to make waves,” he added.

Earlier this month the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) announced its view of medical interventions for the treatment of gender dysphoria in minors has “evolved” to now recommending that plastic surgeons “delay gender-related breast/chest, genital, and facial surgery until a patient is at least 19 years old.”

The revised ASPS position statement came several days after the final verdict in a landmark case in New York State Supreme Court, Westchester County.

A jury awarded $2 million to a young woman who filed a malpractice lawsuit against a psychologist and plastic surgeon, alleging they promoted the removal of her healthy breasts when she was 16 years old.

Vile and disgusting. Totally amoral. I hope all those involved in these surgeries face lawsuits.
