Attorney General William Tong and a coalition of 21 states and The District of Columbia yesterday secured a federal court order blocking an attempt by the Trump Administration to pressure healthcare providers into ending irreversible chemical and surgical mutilation practices for gender dysphoric youth.
The Trump Administration said the blatant harm done to children by chemical and surgical mutilation had been billed as "medical necessity" but that guidance came from an organization, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, which lacks scientific integrity.
There's mounting evidence against the harmful practice (see Cass Report) and countries around the world are abandoning it and/or prioritizing counseling, for example:
It is also no secret the Trump Administration has been fighting what has been described as "a cartel of vile, corrupt and far-left judges trying to kill his campaign promises" so unfortunately this ruling is not surprising.
The Court granted the States’ motion for summary judgment, ruling the Administration cannot threaten to cut off hospitals and clinics from Medicare and Medicaid, for providing irreversible chemical and surgical mutilation practices to gender dysphoric youth.
“Trump and RFK Jr. tried to deny care and force a radical political agenda on doctors and families by weaponizing Medicare and Medicaid funding. This was cruel and illegal, and we just beat them in court. We’re going to keep fighting and winning to protect the right of families and doctors to make personal medical decisions free from political interference,” said Attorney General Tong.
The irony of calling it "cruel" to stop funding irreversible chemical and surgical mutilation practices on children is not lost on us at the Centinal.
As well, Tong fighting "to make personal medical decisions free from political interference" is particularly rich considering his bill, SB 450, would prevent individuals from making personal medical decisions about vaccines based on their religious beliefs.
