The 14th Amendment ensures equal protection under the law and prohibits states from depriving any person of life, liberty, or property without due process. It protects citizens from government overreach and discrimination, reinforcing the principle of fairness. However, it does not extend to enabling illegal activity or burdening taxpayers with the financial consequences of unlawful immigration.

Illegal immigration undermines this fairness. Unlike legal immigrants—who navigate a rigorous process, demonstrate self-reliance, and contribute meaningfully to society—illegal immigrants bypass these requirements. Instead, many rely on taxpayer-funded services such as healthcare, education, and emergency aid. Sanctuary cities exacerbate this issue by using public funds to support those who disregard immigration laws, effectively reallocating resources away from citizens and legal residents.

Meritocracy emphasizes equality of opportunity, rewarding individuals based on their talents, efforts, and achievements. Legal immigration aligns with this principle, ensuring that those who contribute to society do so through legitimate means, enriching the nation with their skills and hard work. Conversely, unchecked illegal immigration disrupts this balance, diverting resources toward those who have not met the same standards of merit or accountability.

Flooding cities with undocumented individuals also risks skewing representation in Congress, undermining the principle of fair governance. Legal immigrants, such as nurses, teachers, and engineers, enter through structured channels that value their abilities and potential, embodying the ideals of a merit-based system.

America needs workers, but they should arrive through legal avenues that respect national laws and ensure accountability. Using taxpayer dollars to support illegal immigration not only breaches public trust but also contradicts the principles of equality and meritocracy. True fairness lies in upholding the law, fostering self-reliance, and ensuring that contributors to society succeed through their talents and efforts rather than circumventing established processes.

In conclusion, we must also focus on empowering our own citizens. From inner cities to rural areas, America is filled with capable individuals who need opportunities to thrive. Instead of prioritizing cheaper foreign labor at the expense of laying off skilled Americans, we should invest in our own talent and workforce.
