The year 2025 dawns with much promise. Or does it? The majority of conservatives seem to still be exultant over the November presidential election, yet hints of disillusionment have begun to percolate through the MAGA movement. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy strongly rebuked immigration critics of the H1B visa program, apparently unaware of the hornet nest they were kicking. Already many Trump supporters are feeling uneasy, as we remember how “lock her up” ending up being a bit, and not a serious intent of the administration. We were serious when we chanted it, Mr. President.

While Republicans are getting a head start on infighting before the inauguration, Democrats are still trembling in horror. You see, rank and file Democrats truly believe the mainstream media narrative that “Trump is Hitler”, so when they see President Biden suddenly sitting down and rubbing shoulders with the villain of their night terrors, it is cause for alarm. How can they trust leaders of their party that do such an abrupt about face? All is well, democracy isn’t in danger after all, false alarm...

Now when we focus only on the particulars, it’s as if the two political camps live in entirely different planes of existence. MAGA is once again worried that the administration might not follow through with campaign promises, while Anti-MAGA is genuinely concerned that Tom Homan and his storm troopers will be going door to door and rounding up weeping families. There is a similarity here though between these two opposing camps that is so obvious, it’s usually overlooked; Neither camp will get what they were told they would from their candidates.

Here we are at the fundamental reality of American politics. President Trump was supposed to be the breaker of this system, as a good many of his supporters can see through the bipartisan fog of politics, and understand that neither of the two major parties actually intends to deliver anything to their voters. With the signs of betrayal already showing, I do not have high hopes that the Trump administration will deliver on anything it promised. President Trump has surrounded himself yet again with people that have agendas, and even Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was able to easily expose the fraud being sold by Musk and Ramaswamy with a brief X post. The Grand Old Party may have defeated the Democrats, but do not fall under any illusion that “We” the American people were victorious in any way. It’s not our democracy, its THEIR democracy. We just have to live in it.
