Over the last several weeks, Jim Himes on several occasions, in a joint Press Release, Public Statements to the media, and in X Postings has made it clear he supports and has urged the use of U.S. military assets by Ukraine’s forces to strike targets within Russia. Over the past two years, the U.S. has supplied military assets to Ukraine to fight Russian forces inside Ukraine. There’s been robust debate over the wisdom of our involvement, but the Russians are clearly the aggressors, and they are being fought within the sovereign territory of Ukraine.
But it is stunning, and I would suggest reckless, for Mr. Himes to approve more advanced weaponry for Ukraine to target assets within the confines of Russia. It’s remarkable how Mr. Himes breezily slides into a posture of approving the firing of U.S. weapons at Russia, and drawing the distinction that it is the Ukrainian personnel pulling the triggers. He’s been gaslighting us that that distinction makes a consequential difference. Really???
The Russian military is staring at advanced U.S. weaponry trained on them, but operated by U.S.-trained Ukrainian soldiers. And Jim Himes thinks the Russians care who is taking the final action and pressing the launch button? Himes said “I think we should be moving the arms more rapidly, and yes, allowing the Ukrainians to use those arms to hit artillery, which is stationed in Russia.” Message to Jim Himes – if the weapons are fired, the Russians may consider it an attack by the U.S.
To make their assessment perfectly clear, in the past week the Russians sent an unmistakable warning to the United States, which was widely reported upon in all the U.S. media. The Russians deployed a flotilla, including a frigate and a nuclear-powered submarine, which sailed within 30 miles of Key Largo on its way to Cuba.
Most oxygen-breathing Americans got the message, but it’s questionable whether Mr. Himes, the national security team, or the Pentagon can add two plus two anymore. The statement from the Pentagon spokeswoman was that the Russians deploy such assets from time to time, and it really wasn’t out of the ordinary, "we've seen them do this -- these type of port calls before -- and these are routine naval visits that we've seen under different administrations...We're always constantly going to monitor any foreign vessels operating near U.S. territorial waters ... but these exercises don't pose a threat to the United States," she said.
If Jim Himes and the Biden Administration actually believe this, they are gaslighting themselves, as well as the American people. The Russians are clearly signaling to us that if we allow our advanced weaponry to strike mother Russia, they are positioned to retaliate in kind. Does Mr. Himes really want to test that logical proposition?? The Biden Administration, with Mr. Himes’ full-throated support are obsessed with the eastern border of Ukraine, to the point where they have now recklessly exposed the U.S. mainland to attack. These are not the statements and actions of a “Moderate.”
