The October 7th Hamas attack and massacre of Israeli innocents in their homes occurred in the aftermath of Iran’s release of five long-held hostages to the U.S. The U.S. had freed up some $6 billion to Iran in exchange for their freedom. The exorbitant payment was considered by many observers as a highly controversial act, which only rewarded and incentivized terrorism. So much so, that last week Speaker Mike Johnson put up H.R. 5961: No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act for a vote, in an effort to withhold what funds were yet to be transferred.
The Bill passed 307-119, and almost predictably, Jim Himes voted AGAINST the Bill! It’s a virtual certainty that Iran was involved in both the training and financing of the attack – and that really changed the complexion of an already odorous and supplicatory hostage deal. Iran had been financially hamstrung with international sanctions until the Biden Administration lifted them in 2021. Since that point at least $50 billion has been released by the U.S. to Iran before the hostage payment. Flush once again, Iran re-commenced what it does best – fund, train, instigate and direct terrorists and terrorism across the greater Middle East. It only took two years and Iran’s cat’s-paw, Hamas, committed the greatest atrocity against the Jewish people since the holocaust of the 1940s.
In addition, just one month ago, the House took a vote on ‘H.R. 6126: Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act’. The Bill passed - but not with Jim Himes’ vote – Himes voted AGAINST Israeli aid in their hour of need. I took him to task on that despicable vote in a Campaign Update a couple weeks back.
So, within one month Mr. Himes has had the opportunity to vote for both an aid package to Israel, plus a vote to stop any further funding to Israel’s mortal enemy, Iran – and Jim Himes votes AGAINST the interests of Israel in both cases. Many serious foreign policy analysts equate the fight for Israel’s survival as the first domino in an ultimate fight for Western Civilization itself. I don’t know who Jim Himes thinks he REPRESENTS in this horrific chapter, but it’s not his constituents who believe the civilized democracies of the West must be preserved, protected and defended. I suspect both these votes would pass by a wide margin of the citizens of CT-4.
This man was hired to vote in Congress on our behalf – and he fails us fundamentally and profoundly on a monthly basis. We don’t have to put up with this failure.
Jim Himes is NO Moderate
The 2024 election will be a referendum on this man’s failed 15-year rule.
