Governor Ned Lamont today announced he is appointing Mariana Monteiro to serve as Connecticut’s chief equity and opportunity officer.
Monteiro will lead the Connecticut Office of Equity and Opportunity, a new state office established by Lamont via executive order earlier this year.
The new DEI Chief is tasked with ensuring Connecticut state government is "a leader in equity and inclusion with the goals of eliminating institutional and systemic barriers and creating opportunity and access for all those it serves and employs."
The office is administratively held within the Office of the Governor and it is funded through that office’s existing appropriations.
“In serving as Connecticut’s first chief equity and opportunity officer, Mariana will lead the efforts of state government offices to ensure they are doing everything possible to create a fair, equitable, and inclusive environment representative of the people who live in our state," said Lamont. "And by doing so will help in our overall goals of addressing historical and ongoing disparities and promoting social justice.”
“Equity, as a guiding lens, expands access to talent, enhances competition without compromising merit, and creates opportunities for all," claimed Monteiro.
It should be noted that McKinsey’s studies finding statistically significant positive relations between earnings DEI metrics, which have been widely cited to justify DEI efforts, could not be replicated. Such reports should not be relied upon "to support the view that US firms can expect to deliver improved financial performance if they increase the racial/ethnic diversity of their executives."
Previously, Monteiro worked as a DEI executive at Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, and Otis Elevator Company.
Governor Lamont’s executive order tasks the chief DEI officer with:
Additionally, the executive order directs all state employees to participate in trainings focused on DEI as coordinated by the chief DEI officer. It also directs all state agencies to develop an agency equity plan with the assistance of the chief equity and opportunity officer.
Monteiro is serving in the role effective immediately.
The State of Connecticut under Lamont's direction, apparently can't get enough equity, which is just Marxism re-branded.
During today's press conference, Lamont was asked why he's going full steam ahead on DEI when Washington and corporate America are both backing off, and whether Lamont had reached out to corporations to better understand the backlash against these racist policies.
"Well I think they're a little worried about the White House incoming," said Lamont before getting interrupted.
"To be fair, prior to the election of Donald Trump, I mean it's fairly well documented...major corporations had sort of stepped away from it," said a reporter in the audience.
"Look we're a meritocracy in this country, and I don't want DEI or affirmative action to say somebody less qualified than me is going to get this job due to some other criteria," said a defensive Lamont, wanting to change the narrative.
"Mariana's doing everything we can to get the most qualified people, best people, to serve in government. You only do that with a really aggressive outreach. We call it affirmative action," explains an out-of-touch Lamont. "And given her experience in some of the most important companies in the state, you see how important it is to the corporate sector as well."
"Maybe DEI, those letters get people a little nervous, what's happening right now," said Lamont. "But Chief Opportunity Officer doesn't."
As if simply rebranding "Chief DEI Officer" to "Chief Opportunity Officer" will make Marxism more palatable.

The DEI money will dry up soon and this position will be eliminated. It’s over

“Equity, as a guiding lens, expands access to talent, enhances competition without compromising merit, and creates opportunities for all," claimed Monteiro.
