Mansfield, CT, is planning an "all towns all ages" pride celebration on June 7th, complete with a drag queen story hour, pronoun pins, a "strut your stuff dance-off" and more.

To show support for "pride", Mansfield announced that it's giving out pride flags at Town Hall, the Community Center, the Senior Center, the public Library and the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center starting on May 31st, that's the day after the Pride flag raising at Town Hall.

The Mansfield government website further lists LGBTQ+ book recommendations from the Mansfield Public Library and the Mansfield Youth Services for elementary ages and up. Books include a long list of titles that normalize transgenderism to children, such as I am Jazz, Calvin and Felix Ever After which even features a teen with "top surgery" scars on the cover.

Other books on the recommended list encourage children to explore their gender identity, such as Who Are You? The Kid's Guide to Gender Identity, which introduces concepts such as trans, genderqueer, non-binary, gender fluid, bigender, third gender, two-spirit, cisgender and more in a picture book format. The book teaches young children that gender is "guessed" at birth, that gender can change day by day, and that there are endless possibilities for gender on the "gender spectrum".

Mansfield has also created a Youth Pride group called "MY Pride" which is open to Mansfield children in fifth through eighth grades "who are part of the LGBTQIA+ rainbow" and their allies. MyPride "validates and celebrates" the diverse identities of youth as young as 10 years old.

The Mansfield government website further recommends the Tolland-Mansfield chapter of a controversial activist group with strong ties to the Democratic party called PFLAG, a group that is working "to create a caring, just, and affirming world."

"Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays" aka PFLAG became the first gay rights group to include transgender people in its mandate in 1998. The group is also known for opposing religious conservatives.

PFLAG lists a number of issues for which it advocates including anti-transgender violence and discrimination, censorship (e.g., keeping graphic books in the library), gun violence prevention, immigration and justice reform, inclusive sexual education (e.g., teaching Marxist gender ideology in all grades), opposing conversion therapy, inclusive school policies (e.g., biological boys in girls' sports and locker rooms), transgender open military service, and more.

The Mansfield Pride celebration is being funded through a Youth Services Bureau Enhancement Grant which comes from the Connecticut Department of Children and Families. The Pride celebration is being organized out of the Youth Services Bureau at Mansfield Town Hall.

You can read more about the DCF Enhancement Grant Program here.

In total, the Mansfield Youth Services Bureau received $18,582 in grant money from the DCF program, including $10.755 in the Enhancement Grant and $7,827 in supplemental funding, for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, according to Youth Services Supervisor Katherine Bell. The grant money supports various Youth Services, including the Pride celebration.

Bell said that this is Mansfield's third pride celebration, and that the kids love it and help organize it.

But do taxpayers realize they are funding it?
