New Canaan High School mom Elaina Colarusso nervously approached the podium at last night's Board of Education meeting to share what happened in her daughter's English class.

Students were required to read the highly controversial book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, one of the most frequently challenged books of all.

"I want the Board to know what is being given as required reading in ninth grade English," says Colarusso. "I apologize in advance for the offensive language. It's why I'm a little choked up because what I'm about to say makes me very uncomfortable."

"Did you know that Indians are living proof that n*ggers f*ck buffalo?" says Colarusso as she reminds the Board "this is what our kids are reading."

"I love that tree, I said. That's because you are a tree fag. I'm not a tree fag. Then how come you like to stick your dick in knot holes? I stick my dick in the girl trees," Colarusso continues.

She moves onto another example from the book that glorifies masturbation and jokes about the character's, um, handiwork as it were. "Everybody does it and everybody likes it. If God hadn't wanted us to masturbate, he wouldn't have given us thumbs."

In another passage the character is talking about getting an erection after hugging his teacher.

Colarusso was only allowed two minutes to speak to the BOE, so she didn't get to question the Board about why the controversial book was approved for 9th grade English.

The Absolutely True Diary of A Part-Time Indian has been challenged and removed for profanity, sexually explicit language, racist commentary and derogatory language in schools all around the country.

The American Indian Library Association even rescinded an award for the book in 2018 when Sherman Alexie admitted he had "harmed" others after sexual harassment allegations emerged against the author. Without offering up any details, Alexie issue an apology for making "poor decisions."

Yet instead of instead of reading a classic without all of the baggage, students are being forced to read highly controversial titles with explicit content.

Educators often defend titles like this because they are "award winners."

In fact, the American Library Association (ALA) named The Absolutely True Diary of A Part-Time Indian "Best Book for Young Adults" in 2008, essentially giving it a seal of approval for classroom and library use.

"The ALA has made it a near sixty year goal to take away rights from parents and give school kids inappropriate material, all at taxpayer expense, of course," argues Dan Kleinman, the President of the World Library Association (WLA), an alternative to the Marxist-led ALA.

"That book was written by a #MeToo abuser," continued Kleinman. "But the ALA doesn’t care when it has a higher goal in mind, namely, indoctrination of children."

Kleinman spends a lot of his time warning parents about the highly sexualized content found lurking inside classrooms and libraries, and educating them on how to fight back and challenge age-inappropriate content.

In the meantime, students are caught in the crosshairs and undoubtedly feel the extra stress that comes with being forced to read inappropriate content or face a failing grade that could negatively impact their high school transcript.

So a concerned mom bravely comes forth to confront our BOE on pornographic literature her 9th grade student is assigned read and the only response from the chair is: “ two minutes”!. That is appalling. The tax paying constituents of New Canaan concerned about the trash pornographers assigning filth to their young children should be allowed as much time as necessary and the chair should investigate, remove the pornographer from his/ her teaching responsibilities.

I had the very same issue last night at the Simsbury Board of Ed when I was enlightening them to the content in the book The Kite Runner that's required reading in our English curriculum and all they could tell me was that I needed to wrap it up...my 3 minutes were over.

Simsbury High School Freshman are required to read the book she's discussing as well. I have addressed it with Simsbury's Board of Ed to nothing but blank stares. No further discussion ever ensued. No action was ever taken by the Board.
