The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finally did something useful and the climate cultists in Connecticut reacted like someone just kicked over their compost bin.

On July 29, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin stood at an Indiana car dealership and committed the ultimate sin: he proposed revoking the 2009 “Endangerment Finding.”

For those lucky enough to have a life, the Endangerment Finding was President Barack Obama’s backdoor way to label carbon dioxide an “air pollutant” — not by law, but by decree — so his EPA could regulate everything from SUVs to cow farts without Congress ever voting on it.

It’s since been used to justify more than $1 trillion in regulations, including the Biden administration’s electric vehicle mandate. Repealing it would eliminate those rules, restore consumer choice, and let Americans buy affordable cars again — while lowering the cost of just about everything transported by truck.

Enter the Four Horsemen of the Eco-Apocalypse.

Governor Ned Lamont wasted no time invoking vulnerable populations, warning that rescinding the Endangerment Finding “puts our communities – especially our children, seniors, and vulnerable populations – at greater risk from the harmful effects of greenhouse gas pollution.” Connecticut, Lamont assured us, “won’t sit by while decades of progress are dismantled.” You’d think he was defending the Constitution, not a bureaucratic rule that lets the EPA treat your minivan like a biohazard.

From the attorney general’s office came the usual litigation theatrics. The finding, William Tong claimed, is “about as non-controversial as it gets.” Without it, Connecticut’s air quality will worsen, and residents “– particularly those with asthma and other respiratory diseases – will suffer.” The real crisis, according to Tong, is the timing: “at the exact moment when we are starting to see the frightening effects of climate change.”

Over at DEEP, Commissioner Katie Dykes dutifully echoed the talking points. “It is settled science that greenhouse gases pollute the air,” she declared, before noting that Connecticut “suffers from some of the worst air quality in the United States.” Eliminating the Endangerment Finding, she warned, would make the state “less safe” and more vulnerable to extreme weather — though curiously, she didn’t explain why her department’s years of climate regulations haven’t improved any of it.

And from the public health desk, Manisha Juthani offered a full buffet of environmental dread. “There is nothing more elemental to life and health than the air we breathe,” she began, before launching into a list of every public health disaster imaginable — respiratory disease, heatstroke, waterborne illness, even “disease-carrying insects.” According to Juthani, repealing the finding “has the potential of endangering thousands of Connecticut residents.”

Put all their statements together and it sounds like repealing a bureaucratic rule no one’s ever heard of will trigger a climate Armageddon — floods, fires, plague, and asthma — all because Americans might get to buy trucks without federal permission.

And here is what they aren’t telling you.

This was never about clean air. It’s about power. The Endangerment Finding has been their golden ticket — the bureaucratic backdoor they’ve used to regulate your car, your wallet, and your way of life without ever bothering with Congress.

By tearing it up, the EPA is doing something radical — it's telling lawmakers to actually do their jobs again. And for the climate control freaks, that’s unacceptable.

Repealing it means fewer unelected officials breathing down your neck about what you drive, how you cool your house, or whether your gas furnace offends Mother Earth. It means putting decisions back in the hands of normal people — not government lifers biding their time until the pension kicks in.

It also means saving more than $54 billion a year — money wasted on pet projects, pointless mandates, and climate virtue-signaling that doesn’t actually help the environment. That’s nearly twice Connecticut’s entire yearly state budget, flushed each year to keep the environmental-industrial complex in business.

And that’s what really terrifies them. Not emissions. Not weather patterns. Just the thought of losing their grip on your life.

The truth is simple. People want reliable cars, affordable energy, and the freedom to live their lives without being nagged by bureaucrats with a God complex.

The Endangerment Finding was never about saving the planet. It was about giving the government another excuse to tell you what to do.

Now it’s being tossed in the trash where it belongs. If that upsets a few professional hand-wringers in Hartford, good.
