As we previously wrote, its primary season in Connecticut, and Oxford’s current First Selectman George Temple and Selectman Arnie Jensen are running in a primary as challengers to the “party endorsed candidates” who were really not endorsed by the party.

Temple and Jensen lost in a narrow margin due to the 90 new “Republicans” that converted to Republican (from Democrat) over 90 days before the open caucus. Temple lost by 5 and Jensen by 2 votes despite these 90 new Republicans.

As a result, Team Temple/Jensen went out for petitions and are on the ballot.

An open caucus is really not that open and a handful of members of the public (outside of the RTC member) showed up and were tactically organized to nominate these two new candidates.

This tactic happens everywhere and is starting to come to Connecticut.

In this case a primary is good to check the “party” forces and go out to the people. At the same time, it is a demonstration that just because you are an incumbent, your nomination is not guaranteed and you cannot rest on your laurels.

Temple and Jensen have realized that and are eager to serve Oxford for another term and are out there fighting like they have consistently done so.

When I ran for Congress last year, I went to events and a diner with the Temple/Jensen team. People came up to them and they were open and friendly and more than willing to talk to their constituents and listen to what they had to say. I had the strong impression that they were very popular and well liked.

In a world where there are many aloof politicians, Temple and Jensen stand out and are true citizen leaders who care about their community.

We know George and Arnie well and know they are the best to serve Oxford and wholeheartedly Endorse Them!

Some notable highlights:

• Incredible emergency response following the tragic storms that devastated Oxford and setup the Oxford Relief Fund to help victims and their families up and down Route 67.
• Despite COVID-19, the Oxford’s new middle school on Great Oak Road opened on time in September 2020, and under budget by $3 million dollars.
• A state-of-the-art public library.
• Structural improvements on all three firehouses.
• An upgraded rescue truck, improving Oxford’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.

Early Voting Begins September 2nd: Oxford’s 2025 primary election early voting period will be held from Tuesday, September 2, to Sunday, September 7.
